Found this button today..it says" Massachusetts Volunteer Militia" on front and R&W ROBINSON Extra Rich ..on the back...near as i can find maybe 1840s?..just thought odd to find in western Mass...Curt
 
Post a pic of the back. Probably 1840s to 1850s. A Mass. button is on my wish list. Congrats!!! Nice find!!!

Heres quick picture of back..heading out to same spot this morning..maybe get lucky and find something else..Curt
 
One outer ring and two inner rings date the button to the 1840s, but they were in sevice throughout the civil war. You might want to check some reference books to be 100% positive, but I am 99.9% sure. Congrats again!!! Post up some more finds from that spot, it looks like a good one. Could be where a veteran of the war returned home and lost some goodies,
