I'm going to a city park in the morning. It's supposed to be 27 degrees and I will hit it hard for an hour or two and then pick up my Moma's groceries for her and go to another town about 17 miles away in the afternoon. HH

:detecting:Thanks Mudpuppy, my hats off to you guys up north for detecting in the freezing cold and frozen ground, best of luck!!

Don't rub it in sailorman! Haha lol, 70 degrees holy moly don't freeze to death!!

You guys have fun, Think I'll stay in and do some more research. Good luck to you all!!

Will do Blade310, research Is one of the cool things about detecting, take care!

Here in N ind the ground's froze and it's lake effect snowing. However it reminds me that my oldest and best finds occured during late march when the ground freezes (it heaves and brings deep coins up shallower) then thaws , usually during March and april. Of course the sledding/ski/tubing hills are also loaded then. Also when the icemounds melt at the shore of lake michigan it's harvest time. The ice dredges sand and goodies up from the lake onto shore during winter, got a nice opel ring at waters edge last spring there. Good Times aren't far off.

Mudpuppy that's to cold for me!

Ralph I never thought about freezing and thawing bring up the old coin, that's interesting!

Fongu I'm with ya I will be hitting it hard also , have fun!

Goodluck Nova74, hope you find the goodies ! Hank

I think that freezing and thawing bringing up coins has a lot to do with the type of soil and what the target is made of. I never did figure out any direct correlation, but I know that I've gone back over an area in the early spring and found new targets where I would swear that I had cleaned it out the year before. Did I just miss them the first time? I don't know. Maybe.

Our targets just seek deeper here I guess the climate here in Alabama has a lot to do with it, but who knows!
