Whoo Hooo! I've got some good news .... from White's ...

Some of you long time forum friends know that I published a book in 2001 titled Metal Detecting For Beginners, How To Get Started Correctly. The book was written to answer questions detector dealers are repeatedly asked by folks considering getting into the hobby or are new to the hobby. I started writing it right after spending almost 1 1/2 hours answering questions from a lady who was wanting to buy a metal detector for her adult son as a Christmas gift. She asked me, "Wow, there is so much to learn, is everything you told me written down anywhere?"

Before going into business for myself I worked in a large corporation as a marketing manager and wrote a lot of corporate stuff, ... presentations, speeches, manuals, annual reports, advertising copy, etc. so it was fun and a labor of love to write about the hobby we all enjoy.

In 2003, the revised 2nd edition was published bringing it up to 102 pages and had it "perfect bound". Several forum friends contributed content ideas and assisted in editing of the revised edition to make it more accurate, interesting and readable, ... most notably, Bob Davis (BobInMizzu) spent many hours of his personal time helping and is recognized in the dedication. Thank you again Bob. Other contributors are credited within the book.

My good news is that White's Electronics has decided to distribute the book through their network of distributors who serve all White's dealers. Their initial order is now at the printers and will soon be shipped to them in Sweet Home.

Since the book was first published, we have been giving a copy to people who purchase a metal detector from us. Some customers choose to buy the book and then receive credit for the book purchase when they return to buy a machine from us. Quite a few other dealers are also offering the same "deal".

If they are new to the hobby, they tell us the book has been helpful. If they are not new to the hobby, we ask them to read the book, then pass it along to someone they know who is new to the hobby who may benefit from reading it.

... it's much lighter in weight and here on SW Fla's Gulf Coast we don't have much wave / current / tide rise and fall action to bury targets as deep and rapidly. On the east coast when working water where the electronics could get wet, Excal would be my preference too.

On wet salt sand, not pounded by waves, I actually prefer the DFX or the new M-6 .... with the 12" spider coil, ... both good quiet deep seekers without the weight and much less in cost. We sell Minelab along with White's and a couple DetectorPro's so I have access to them all. JMHO.

... if you are a White's dealer you'd likely get a better quantity cost from your White's distributor. If not, contact me off forum.... famhard@aol.com .
