Actually I guess it's 7- 1/4 inch............... Does it work well ?? Is it stable ??

If you use the 6x8 sef why. What makes it better ??....

I use the X-8 and it is fairly quiet. Naturally it has better target separation in trashy spots, but I use it more for brushy sites where the 11" pro and 10X12 sef are too big for swinging.

[size=large]between the x-8 and the sef 8x6 i went with the sef. only cause it cost less. i use it more often than not on my pro.

Its a great coil. Very stable. I use the Sun Ray X-5. Its a VERY stable coil. Deep too for its size!

The Minelab 8 inch coil does very well in trashy areas, good separation, good depth. The only drawback I see is the weight, to me it's heaviar than the Pro coil. I also use the 4.5x7 Exc. coil which does a great job in ground saturated with iron junk, a lot of silver has entered my pouch using this coil.

I have the Minelab's 8" FBS coil and I agree with TwoRivers about the weight; one would think a coil that small wouldn't have that much weight. As far as working in trashy areas, I have no other small coil to compare it to so I cannot say. I use it successfully however in trashy and normal environments.

Worked very well, was stable. My personal experience was that it worked in high trash as well as smaller coils. I might try replace it with the 6x8 SEF.

I have had the Sun Ray X-8 for years. It is my main coil. It is lightweight, tough, stable and deep. I would guess it beats the ML 8" on all of those. Never had a problem with it. I once dug a Canadian large cent that gave a tiny but clear signal at 10"-11" with mine (old school lawn). My buddy has had his X-8 almost as long as I have. He had a ML 8" coil that he tried out. He doesn't have the ML anymore, still uses the X-8.
