who use's DD coils on there Ace 250

I have a 5x8 DD coil coming for my Ace 250 and was wondering if anyone has been useing one on theres . I need a idea what to expect from it . I know the recovery speed is slower on the ace 250 than it is on a lot of other detectors so didn't know how that would make it perform using that coil . I use to use a 5x8 sef coil on my whites M6 before I sold the detector and loved it but the recovery speed is a lot faster on the whites than it is on the Ace 250 . If anyone has used one please chime in and let me know how you like it and how it performs.

I will try my DD coil from my 350 on my sons 250 this weekend and let ya know, hank

You should have contacted Garrett customer service. They would have told you you cannot
expect to use the Ace 350 coils on the Ace 250. You CAN however use the Ace 250 coils on the Ace 350.
Using the 350 coils on the 250 will not give you the depth of satisfaction as they were NOT MADE to
accept the 8.25 kHz. HOWEVER The Ace 350 WAS made to accept the 250 coils.

I called Garrett about this sometime back. I don't know why people are still under the impression
the 350 coils will work on their 250. They are just wasting their money. I trust the Garrett customer service
people know what they are talking about.

Maybe you can get your money back. Garrett NEEDS to make this clear on their website, the catalog and send a memo
to all their dealers so as to clwear this up, in my opinion.

Garrett's DD coils for the 350, 250 and 150 have the same part numbers. They are the same coils.

Hello Everyone ,
Well I got my 5x8 DD coil for my Ace 250 earlier this week and gave it a good try out at the state fair grounds in Sadelia , Missouri today . It worked really well was using it in high trash areas and my detector was going wild ringing . I will have to get use to the change in coils thats for sure it was super sensitive and I need to practice slowing my swing down with this coil . Only complaint I have with the coil this far is that it likes Bottle caps real well , had way more bottle caps than coins today and they were ringing up as pennies loud and clear . The coil works just find on the Ace 250 and was getting pretty good depth some of the caps I dug were steel caps with lots of rust on them . Remember this was my first time out with the coil so need more times dirt fishing to get a better opinon on it but this is the good and bad I saw from my first hunt .

When I had my 250 I put an EXcelerator DD coil on it and let me tell you, it was a completely different machine. I really liked it, and I would imagine the Garrett DD coil would be close if not the same performance.

Well took a second hunt last night with the 5x8 DD coil it did a lot better in this site . There wasn't near as much trash as there was in the first site and I slowed down my swing some and got a long alot better with it . I don't hunt very hard or cover to much area as I am disabled and partly crippled anyway think I will like this coil once I learn the use of it better ,will say it is small enough that it is mainly for trashy smaller area's and its very sensitive so requires the slow swing type of hunting .
I was hunting in a old ball field not used anymore except for some minor practices by soccor teams for little kids school . I hunted about a hour and a half before I had to stop found 15 coins , 5 quarters and 1 dime and 9 pennies oldest was a 1967 quarter , also found a very small Wolf cub scout pin actually still in working order . Thanks for looking and I think if you are lookin for a small sensitive coil this one would do the trick but as someone else said it turns your Ace 250 into a whole new operating detector takes some learning on it .Heres a view of the cub scout pin it picked up loud and clear as a coin sound , this is about the size of a 3/4 penny .

Actually I plan to buy the 10x14 excellerator coil from KellyCo.
The ad says it can be used with the 150, 250 qnd 350. I want to see
how much deeper I can get in a couple fields where I have verified two
old towns once stood back in the 1830's thru 1865.

Has anyone use the 10x14 coil?

I have been forcing myself to use my new Ace 250 with the 8.5x11 DD.
All things considered it seems pretty good. It does take some getting used to.
I noticed if you get two iron signals right next to each other, or a 3" piece of bent wire, it falses as a single coin.
As you said, slow the swing down and it will read properly.

I have to say I'm starting to like the Ace 250 with the dd. It does take time to learn.

Congrats BearHarold, I agree it worked great, sorry I forgot to post update, hank

Love my ACE 250 it is my buudy for jewerly, coins, rings and of course pull tabs. I have had my DD coil for over 2 years and it just performs greatly as I use the front to back toe wiggle method for fast recover time. I also Have a Garrett 2500 and
it works wonders for me also. Customer service is super for fast repair time if needed. Still playing in the dirt at my age...Jim

I tried looking it up...
Can someone describe the 'toe wiggle' method?

He is referring to how he pinpoints with his DD coil I do believe . Some people do it with the back point of the coil and some do it with the front point of the coil . They push the pinpointer button and center over a target then slide the coil forward Or back till you just lose contact with your target at one end or the other of your coil then slide it just back or forward to where you can hear your target again then you wiggle right and left to center your target with the end point of your coil . The target should be right at the end of your coil point when you dig . Once you have mastered how this works your target holes should be right on and smaller making your target easier to find in less time . I myself have used this method but normally don't as I do ok with pinpointing in the center of my coil but for some people its a easier way of pinpointing there targets . Hope this will help explain what he meant and maybe someone can chime in and do a better job of explaining it .

Aah. Makes sense... being as the 'signal zone' of a DD is like a blade. So I get the target at one end of the zone, then move side to side a bit to pin it.

This should help me a lot. This is my first DD. Much different than a concentric.

Thank you!

Dodge...there is a pretty good video segment on the toe wiggle method on you tube...it is a portion of the instruction video that Garrett send with their Ace 350. Only reason I know this is I watched it today. I no sooner watched it than the UPS truck pulled up in front of the house delivering my new toy an Ace 350. Now I can try this hobby for real. LOL...just thought I would share that bit of info as it is the only info I have to share...just getting started in this hobby.
