who uses a DE LEON how do you like it how deep on a dime ?

Gunnar:
I use the DeLeon with a standard coil and I beach detect only (no water). This summer I have found 1320 coins, about 15 rings and jewelry. It is a good coin machine. Not a great beach machine. It is difficult to impossible on black and pockmarked sand. But it is what I had and I used it with some good results. Most coins were in the 2" to 4" range with some at 6" to 8" depth. The meter readings good to about 4" and than iffy on deeper coins. Dug a lot of screw caps and quarters in the 6" plus range. Deeper dimes 5" or more have a hollow sound much like a pull tab. It is a light, easy to use machine. Response very fast and I could really get a good pace going covering a lot of the beach. I am not an expert and have only started detecting again 3 summers ago. These are my experiences.Hope it helps you... Jer

Hi phinbolt, do you find the Deleon's TID accurate to only about 4" also - I was just wondering because I have one ordered & still waiting for it. Unlike zeekeys I don't beach hunt - I only hunt school grounds/ tot lots and such. I am hoping the Deleon's TID would be alittle better at id'ing accurately at more than 4". Thanks! Steve...

Well I don't know if the ground out here in SD. is eaisier to read but I can tell 90% of the time if it is a dime or quarter at up six or eight inches. On silver of any kind coin or jewlery it is great I can get 10 to 12 inches on dimes. This summer I found the larger silver ring with turquoise in the same area that I dig mercury dimes at 9 inches down. That Franklin half is a 1954, found in same same area of park at 12 inches or better. The only thing that will skew coin readings are pennies that are well corroded. I am getting much better at telling what is under my coil and I belive next years gold count will get much better. With 4 gold rings this year and 2 in one day It broke my heart to box up my DeLeon for the winter.

Phinholt thanks for the post to Steve. I know it made him more at ease about his choice of the DeLeon. You are right I do not see many posts from DeLeon users. Thanks again. Jer

Yes thank you very much Phinholt, I really appreciate all you told me on the Deleon, I am more at ease now. And thank you also zeekeys! Steve.
