sunrays x-8 on the explorer series..... and by better I mean which can take a higher sens setting without the chatter, which feels better balanced wise, and most notably, which one give the more correct id on the screen??

Any and all thoughts are appreciated as always..

Mark,

I can't speak to the 8x6 SEF, but I put the 10 x 12 SEF on my XS and then SE Pro, and founds hundreds of coins that I missed earlier, so I'm definitely a fan of the SEF series.

Go to the Home page and under the ad for the CTX3030 is a link to product reviews by findmall members- click that and then the very first link is a review of pretty much any coil you'd ever consider using. Great reading and TONS of useful info.

Good luck!

Hello Mark, I don't own the small SEF coil. I do have the big on 10 x 12 and use it on my EXP II. I like it but I like the 15 inch WOT better.
Now for small coil I use the stock Minelab - I do well with it in heavy trash by changing settings and stuff like going slow and ignore the sounds until I hear a good one.
I hope others chime in because I want to understand if I am missing out on a good thing.
I forgot to add that to limit the noise I use the crazy Semi Auto. I never understood that term - it makes the difference and clears out the chatter

BIGTONY semi auto on the explorer series works such as if say you set it at 16 which was factory on my ex2 it would lower the sensitivity if need be to run quiet and smooth for what the detector samples in the ground but won't go higher than the 16. If you go too high on auto or manual sensitivity it may not work properly.

In my soil with a ground reading of 85-90 for mineralization on my other detectors I could only run about 11 on the ex2 in manual without all the noise and factory 16 worked fine and smooth so I left it there and ran auto.

On the Etrac and CTX3030 it's fully automatic and will run as high or low as can be and 30 is the top end setting. Mine runs about 15-19 most of the time in auto +3.

EtracTom, Today I ran it at 20 semi auto and got great separation where I was detecting. It was a small patch of ground with red soil under most of the grass.
So, yeah you are correct - higher levels don't always help you out and may hurt your finds at the end of the day.
Thanks and HH

Good to hear that BIGTONY. What is factory setting on your SE machine ? Is it the same as was on my old Expolrer2 which was 16 semi auto factory or is it higher? What I saw in a video was to put it there and then switch it to manual and sweep back and forth and slowly go down by a couple numbers till the detector ran quiet and smooth and then either run in manual there or better yet set it back to semi auto and go up couple of numbers like 2 more and run it there. If it's close to factory I would just leave it there in semi auto.
