who is heading into 2011 with the Sovereign.

Some of you know my story LOL.

Anyway. Who is going to stick with their Sovereign GT and ignore the hype of other models. I will be getting without a doubt a Garrett At-Pro which will compliment my GT for freshwater and yard and park hunting.. I can run a poor mans Excalibur if needed but I get tired of breaking down the target probe and coil of my GT in order to get there.
My personal flagship for fields and beaches and running silver only mode in old parks will continue to be my GT. Unless of course Minelab reveals a new Sovereign model or until someone else can make a machine that can handle soil from New England fields to Volcanic terrain without all the bells and whistles ( I don't want an Excalibur) Or I hit the lottery. I don't want to sound like a punk kid who trashes the items he did not get for Christmas but secretly wants. I would love to own an E-Trac or a V3i. I need to rely on a machine that is truly universal for my main gun and a second machine that fits but also has some advantages like the 15kHz of the At-PRO.

Just my Rambling

I'm going to stick with my Sovereign Gt because it finds things my other metal detectors seems to miss. When i take my tesoros out on a hunt they do very well in finding silver and gold rings (in parks) of course I'll never part with them as well. The Sovereign kicks tail on the salt beaches and she gets down very deep.In fact I'll be at Myrtle beach on the 10/11 of December so if anyone is in the area and want to detect together let me know.It may be cold but we'll have fun searching for treasure. It would be nice to get out in the water a little further so I'm thinking about trying the Gt under my waders with a chest mount .Don't know if it will work but I'll figure something out.

Hi Jason.

I read so many good things about the Sovergn that I have one
on the way. I been forwarned that I need to be patient with it and
learn it but ...I'm convinced it will be worth it.

I purchased the AT Pro and just sold it because in hindsight
I don't think it will be able to compete with the Sovergn because
of the exceptional depth that users say it gets.

Nothing wrong with the AT Pro it just that I think the mult-
frequency will have advantages and the Sovergn appears
to be built extemely well.

The only thing I did not like about the AT Pro was the darn
headphones. Then you need some adapater to make your
existing phones work with them.

Happy Hunting!

I just got My Sovereign GT on Monday and used it for it's first hunt yesterday. Here's the results. No gold but I had a good 4hr hunt!

The Sovereign is great in the field less work and great finds.I have other detectors, but one Sovereign is always on hand for a confidence builder. The GT is OK but I prefer the older XS.For those who learn the Sovereign will know the secret there is no performance substitute for this detector.

Have you used other machines before? I am sure you noticed how smooth the threshold is on the Sovereign. Like Ron said it is a confidence builder. I always have two machines. I like to do a quick scan with my Garrett to get out the surface finds. Then I re scan with the Sovereign and take my time to pull out the deep treasures.

I have my 2 GTs and an Excal and maybe another 5 or 6 detectors that I bought to see if I could find some solutions to their shaft weaknesses, But my GTs are my favorites, and I don't see anything on the horizon to ever tempt me to sell them. They are the absolute most customizable detector on the planet! Part of the fun of detecting is to modify our equipment and to personalize it and do it our way. There is no right or wrong way to do it, just have fun doing it!

I know I will keep mine. The Sovereign is the only detector I have that can work the wet salt water beaches I love to hunt. If it's not broke don't try to fix it:thumbup:

I will use my GT until it doesn't work anymore. If I did upgrade it would be to an Excal, which is a waterproof GT. All that the new fancy machines give you that The GT doesn't is a hi tech screen display, that won't tell you anymore about a target than my GT. Many of the new expensive machines aren't worth a darn on the wet salt beaches I hunt on. The black sand iron drove by White's machine crazy. I won't fix what's not broke. My only problem is it's to cold out there now and I have to wait for spring. I can hear the threshold sound from my GT in the closet whining " eddieeeeee.....there's gooolddd out there"! :) It's going to be a long winter :-(

Well i have the Sovereign Elite and i will not part with it .... I had a GT but sold it for some reason don't know why but i did......But i found a good deal on the Elite and grabbed it up............. I have been useing Sovereigns since they first came out in 1992..........It seems like all the new model detectors every maker puts out is as never as good as the Sovereign.....

I may wade into a few other machines because there are only a few I haven't owned or used yet for comparisons. A T2 or F75 (the limited versions of each), an Omega or G2, perhaps an Etrac. If at the time I can't afford to have both I'll sell off the GT to try them out but no fear as I have done this on a regular basis with my other machines and will just go back to them if I don't like the new model any better. Can't tell you how many times I left the QXT Pro for the Explorer or other machines, only to sell them off down the road and end up right back to the QXT again. Now the GT is my go to machine, so all other units will have to get deeper for me than it, provide good audio, and so on, or it's right back to the GT. I just have to do some research on the T2 & F75 limited versions, Omega, and G2 to figure out which is said to go deepest on silver/copper. Plenty of former Etrac/Explorer guys using one of those machines now and claiming more depth in their soil. Might consider an AT Pro if the depth reports on it are good for land silver/copper hunting. I've always been one to "sample the wine" over the years and tried to own or at least use various models for extending periods of time to see how they compare to each other. My other source of info on machines I've never owned has been head to head field comparisons with guys I hunt with. For instance, the CZ6a has NOTHING over the QXT Pro in terms of depth on silver/copper on land. In fact, not only did the QXT go deeper but it's got much better discrimination and audio. Can't tell you how many times a friend's CZ thought a deep silver I had located was iron or a pull tab according to it's ID. He also refused to hunt in trashy areas where the QXT just went along purring like a kitten for me.

I've also got another friend who like me has owned/tried all the models he can get his hands on. His last two models were the Etrac and SE but both of those are gone now too. He's been more of an Explorer guy over the years but I think he might try a Sovereign next time unless some new machine comes out he wants to sample.

I really got into beach hunting this year after years of dirt digging. I tried a bunch of other units, and some I even liked. I liked the XL pro I had. I liked the Prizm 6T for tot lots. But for hunting in the sand I love the Sovereign. Back and forth between wet and dry sand with no adjustment. Surf rolling across the coil. No noise from Iron. A pleasure to hunt with it hip mounted. Oh I will always have a Sovereign. The only way I get rid of it is to buy a new model Sovereign. To be honest with you all I spent a bunch this year on coils, amps, scoops, mounting gear, gas to the shore. Now that I have a decent beach hunting set up I want too save for an E-Trac. I think any other detector would be a down grade. Just my personal opinion.

I'm not getting rid of the GT. I'm just beginning to learn it. Would like a spare. Haven't even made it to the beach yet. The only issue I see with it is the masking issue. Of course I'd like to check out an Etrac which some say unmasks better. I have other detectors that do a good job of unmasking [Compadre, IDX Pro, Compass Gold Scanner, etc.] but read that the T2 and F75 are about the best for unmasking. Apparently no one detector does it all and I'm still looking for the best combination probably with the GT as the main one and maybe a water detector that's also good at unmasking [?].

***************************** I don't know what you mean by the masking issue............Every one buys the Sovereign & Excalibur for it does a good job in iron mask.............. I never heard it to be a issue always a blessing.......... Minelab is the only detectors made that have iron mask that is why we buy them............... All those detectors that you said does the best to unmask is because they do not have iron mask in them they have no iron mask and then they have no iron unmask...First time i ever heard the word iron unmasking........
