Who here hunts corn and bean fields with there Etrac

Found a couple old schools and churches that are long gone in my area so I gave it a quick scan
and the 11" pro coil kept hanging up on the bean stalks... What coil or coils do you etrac users use?
One more question! being the farmers don't plow any more whats
the average depth of your finds in these fields? Any tip's you have that might help would also be appreciated!

As you know I don't swing a Etrac so I can't help you out as for if their is a better coil to use but I use a open coil and I walk across the rows of beans and corn. I swing between the rows and I drag one foot so I can see where my last pass was.

You have to keep in mind that they use to plow the fields so your coins can be anywhere from on top of the ground to 12" or deeper. when I'm doing fields I dig everything that beeps above iron, everything and take your trash out of the field so if you go back next year your not digging it again....

Good luck and have fun

Thanks Mark! That's good advise:thumbup:

Bean fields are the easier of the two. Just have to swing the best you can. You can get a rythem, but it will be more of a sideways swing with a dip....so to speak. Corn is a pain no matter what, the good thing is next year most likely it'll rotate out to beans.

Like Mark, I dig every non-ferrous target I find in the fields.

I do swing the Etrac & I basically hunt the same way Mark does...........yeah, the coil catches some ( I use the stock coil )..........just the price of good, old finds! Unfortuately, this year most of my fields were drilled with beans with NO tilling! I thought I would still make decent finds.........but no, I haven't found much........me & my hunting buddy did MUCH too good a job last fall & spring!!
Like Mark said.......dig EVERY signal above iron!!!!!

Thanks Neb Trac...I enjoy watching your vids Keep them coming!

Thanks Dale....I wander how my 6" EQ Pro 2 would do in those fields....

By the way..... last year fields gave me Large & Indian cents, two cents, three cents silver, 5 half dimes, Capped bust dime, seated & barber dimes & quarters, .etc, .etc!
That's why I hunt farm fields!

Duggr......I do occasionally use a 6" coil in heavy iron & is easier to swing in the stubble, I should mention you need to really go slow to get the small stuff!
Good Luck!

What was in these fields that gave all the Great finds you described...
I was wandering if churches one room school houses or what produced the best results,,,

Need help?

I might extend the offer to you! I'll get back with you later:thumbup:

I hunt fields all fall and spring until they plant again, I use the sef 6x8 coil and it is no problem to get coins at 8-9 inches, althought most coins are usually 2-4 inches, and they have been doing no till here for last 10+ years.....well most farmers that is, probably 10% still till. Fields is where the majority of my large cents and seated silver comes from. I dig EVERYTHING above iron. The small coil is way better in iron and easy to manuever around the corn stalks

Yah! I hunted my first field yesterday with the stock 11" pro coil.. Definitely not the coil of choice!!
Next time I will use my 6" Ecel EQ Pro 2 solid coil....

I hunt a lot of fields and overgrown old farm sites down here in central Illinois. Because of the heavy trash I use the SEF 8x6. It's an open style coil and the corn stalks are a pain at times, but the coil bottom can be closed off with a thick piece of flexible plastic sheet and some zip ties.
