Who has used the Goldscan5 for Civil war relics

The detector is not hot for lead so its depth on Minnie's is around 10 to 12 inches, however it works very well in hot ground with no problem. Buckles and buttons are no problem. You must use the ID mode when searching. I found many years ago one of the largest Corps camps in Maryland. The ground was super hot. I took the GS 5 there only to find the area developed. However in some of the remaining UN touched ground the detector worked fine. It worked fine in Brandy Station. Thats it for now . I will hit some camps this fall. Tex

Thanks for the info tex. I have some nice placing to hunt in Maryland and one near Chancellorsville VA that has bad ground and a CW trench running under a power line. Maybe the GB5 useful there?

Hello FrankMD,

A while back, I found a 2.1 grain nugget (weighed with a powder scale) with my GS5 using the 10" x 6" Coiltek mono coil, very close to a major power line.. I highly recommend using the unit under and around power lines and places where you will run into EM interference.

So far I haven't noticed any difference in depth, whether in the above areas or areas without some type of interference..

Hope this helps, - Jim -

Frank,
I live in Virginia and lived and hunted Maryland many years ago finding many camps. Let me know if you come down to Chanc. We can meet and you can check it out. Tex

Tex, I'd like to take you up on that offer. My situation is that I don't have any detector right now with many hot spots to go to. Kinda of ironic as I used to be a metal detector (industrial) technician/engineer for 10 years and detected since 1982

Also off of route 17 I have a hot spot that should produce gold nuggets and maybe some pocket gold. I found a nice picker nugget there panning in a very small tributary creek. Later

Frank
