..........detectors? Are they good? How is depth and how good on gold jewelry? Chance has come up to getting one but should I ...anybody have good/bad experiences with this one? Help me to decide...thank you.

It performs as good as an xlt(very good). It is not easy to program without a manuel (which can be downloaded from whites website). The faster you sweep it the deeper it detects. I used 4 rechargeable c cels in mine, you can expect about 10 hours of use before the batteries need recharging. When new they came with a rechargeable battery and charger,my original battery lasted 5 years. The eagle 2 sl has tone id( Wery good) and two quadrant vdi(turn that on because it id's iron very well. If the vdi jumps around a lot the target is trash 90% of the time, but a 4 number variation is usually a keeper. The builtin programs are good,it also has 2 user programs that you can set that dont go away when you turn it off.

I still use the Eagle SL 90.5.When I tested it against my Explorer XS the Targets on my Eagke were louder and alot better ID.We have real bad soil and 4 filters work the best here.
I like the touch pads better on the Eagles than the XLT.I dont like having to go through a menu to adjust the controls.
I print a lable on the bottom of my Eagle that tell what each pad does when you use edit or push trigger forward and what the advance edit does. Also I do away with the S rod and use a straight rod, then use carbon batterys that are lighter.Ends up about 4 lbs and 12 oz.
The SL90 and 90.5 are a little different.Mode C has the AC and DC mixed mode or target ID in the 90.5.The 90 just has target ID in mode C.There are a few other changes also.

Ivan- I used an Eagle SL90 for 15 years before buying an XLT. I found 1000's of coins old and new with it and also a few nice gold and silver rings. They are very well built and have very good depth. I still have mine and will use it as a back up. The only thing is that repair parts are hard to come by. I don't think White's carries the parts anymore. A few years ago I had to have the circuit board replaced and was told the part was the last new one they had. If you can get one with one or two coils in the $250.00 range, it would be worth it. Also, someday if you decide to upgrade to an XLT (not the DFX), the coils are compatible. Hope this helps, Gerry

A sort of grandfather to the XLT with comparable performance...Drawbacks are its 16 years old and aforementioned from one of the other posts parts are hard to come by..Also its like a chinese puzzle to set up as its double tiered but once learned is not much of a problem...Really an oldie but goodie, but way ahead of its time when it came out in 90 and still comparable to many units made today...

Pinpointing is excellent with the Eagle. Press the trigger and hold it until the reading on the meter reads the swallow-est depth. The target is right in the center of the coil. ( Here a HINT ) After pinpointing release the the trigger. Bounce the coil off the ground if you get a solid beeping then the target is good if the target breaks up then it will be trash.

My detector of choice for over 15 years. I own Eagle II and Eagle II SL. Excellent beach and land unit here on the East coast. Many gold, silver, and coin finds. Just had mine tuned up and small repairs by Centreville Electronics (Whites Factory repair center here). No problem with repairs I had done. Just "upgraded" to the DFX so mine will be my backup units.

Great discrimination. Tons of coils. Programming is pretty easy. I have two and won't get rid of them. I hip mount mine and hunt all day. Have found silver dimes at 8". Six inch coil is a must.

Hi Ivan...I have a New Minelab SE....I had an Eagle SL back when they first came out...First rate machine...Just wish I still had mine...I am looking at trying to find one as a second unit...They are great...TT
