New member
theres no doubt its a great coil, but I want to hear
what people that use it have to say.....do you like it?? do you use it a lot ??? does it compare in depth to the 8 inch coil?? did you buy it and then end up not using it much?? do you have buyers remorse?? give me the low down if you have experience with this coil. I know its a good coil so spare me the smoke .........

I find it interesting you've had no responses to your question. Now I'm beginning to wonder if the S-5 isn't as popular as other coils with the Soverign GT crowd. I've seen lots of good comments on the S-12 but very little on the S-5.

I've been considering getting a S-5 for my Sovereign GT but was wondering if any one has had any issues using in conjunction with the Minelab DigiSearch Meter.

I found a field test / review of the Sunray S-5 and S-12 in the Jan. 1997 issue of Lost Treasure magazine. In the aticle the author was referring to the Sovereign XS and older model Sovereigns. He stated:

"It is important to note that if you are planning to use either the S-12 or S-5 coils with Minelab

The meter that was mentioned was the original Minelab Sovereign meter that was a bar meter and not digital like the ones the Sun Ray made at the time and now Minelab also makes. There was no calibration control like the digital meter are now so you were not able to calibrate the meter each time you switched to a different coil.
On the S-5 coil I have used one a few times for some very trashy area and found it worked excellent, but most of the time I find my S-8 or the 8 inch Coinsearch coil works for most areas I hunt. On my Explorer is where I find the little 5 inch works real good (not the same coil).
The idea of the 5 inch coil is for the places you want good separation so the coil don't see so much and you can pick out the good targets from the bad. The depth will not be as good as the S-8 but for a 5 inch coil it does well and went deep enough for me.
