Who had the audio problem with thier F-75?

You posted that you had trouble with the audio occassionaly cutting out, but that you fixed it yourself. I would like to talk to you, please email me your phone number so I can call you. Thanks.

email me at gene.scullion@etcconnect.com (work)
or badgermd@tds.net (home)

I finally found the post you made about your audio problem. Did you actually see any issues, bare wires touching, poor solder joints? Or did you just move the wires around and the problem went away? And is it still working good? Thanks.

The few problems I heard about was from the battery springs not putting enough pressure on the cells to maintain good electrical contact. This would affect all operations of the unit, but you may notice it first in the headphone audio.

Not all AA cells are the same length, specially when using NiMH or Ni Cads. I have had my share of shorter and longer regular AA cells also.

You probably checked this out already, but I thought I would mention it. :)

I have also had a few undersized headphone plugs. That will drive you nuts when you least expect it. It breaks connection at the most un-opportune moments.

Have a nice day

thats good to know right there!!
One other thing I've noted on the 75, is that it likes a nice tight knurled nut on the coil connector. Mine (my F75) started acting up in the field one day not too long ago, and the nut was just a tiny bit loose. tightened it, and it immediately straightened out! All the pins still have to have had a good conn (the nut was only maybe an 1/8th of a turn loose), so its seems the nut serves as a ground path, or maybe a shielding path. dont know, but DO know it had to be tight!!! Streak!

Hey Scully, I really like the Cortes I bought from you. It works and never breaks down. My 3 month old F-75 just broke for the 3rd time today. I have used it 4 hours this time. I have learned to walk slowly back to the van and get out the Cortes and to resist the temptation to wrap this sucker around a tree. I'm mellowing with age.

I've found that about 90 % of the problems folks send their machines in for are easily addressed ar home. did it actually break, or did it just start acting up???

First time-cold solder joints on the board. sent for repair. Then they sent me a new coil that to replace one that was bad-That one was also defective. Then it was sent in -new coil, new battery box and new board. Now I have ran it for 4 hours and it is doing the same things again-believe me I have a degree in electronics and I am so tempted to fix it but I know better without diagrams and readings to go on. I asked for a new machine on the second trip back and they assured me they could fix it. I have heard it all from the die hard F75 people that it's a cell phone to I have to much static in my body. I just got a lemon. Wish they had their machine back and I had my money back.

Hi Scully, from what I remember after opening up the back of the battery box it seemed that the wires had been pushed together at the time of assembly, what I did was seperate each one & run a small screw driver round each solder joint then carefully reassembled it, the audio just came back loud after this.

I had already stretched the springs before this & changed batteries but still had the audio problem, also placed some packing around the batteries to make them not rattle.

Its still running OK although I need to keep the sensitivity down around 40 in DE with disc 6 to 16 to shut the chatter up most times .

Your first line of service should have come from your dealer. He could have swapped it out for a replacement for you.

I'm assuming this was a new purchase, not a used one.

Your on track MR BILL, wish I had NOT bought from the big name, never again !
I do expect an email to be answered within a reasonable time, not a apology some days later.

Thats good to hear (that you like your Cortes), but bummer with the F-75. New machines sometimes have a few bugs to get worked out. Fortunately Fisher is responiding and working to turn machines around quickly.
