Who Are My Brothers?
“The payoff of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 (NET) New English Translation
The sons of Joseph, from his previous marriage, were Jesus’ step brothers. They heard about Jesus’ ministry and were filled with astonishment and concern. They worried that He was wearing Himself out with constant labor, nor taking time to eat, and spending entire nights in prayer. Also, they were concerned about His differences with the Pharisees and priests and were hoping that His thinking was not becoming affected by all this. The Pharisees and priests could not stop Him from working miracles, nor could they control His teaching, but they did everything else in their power to misrepresent Him and to twist His words. Still the power of the Holy Spirit followed them and brought conviction to their hearts, but they would not give in.
Jesus said, “Out of wat is in the heart, the mouth speaks.” Men are influenced by their own words. Uncontrolled expressions affect our thoughts, and soon we beleive what we have said, whether it’s true or not. Unless we yield ourselves to the control of Christ, we will be dominated by the wicked one. All we have to do is not identify ourselves with the Kingdom of Light, and Satan will take over. The only defense is the indwelling of Christ in the heart and our faith in His forgiveness & righteousness. We need to surrender ourselves to Him every day or we will be overcome. It is in Him that we are safe.
Question: Do you surrender yourself to Christ every day? Do you verbalized it and say it to Him? Your body responds to what you hear and deepens what you’re thinking.
