Whites XLT-E Series Stray Signals

New member
While swinging my XLT-E I often get stray hit signals. This seems to happen when the cable from the coil comes into contact with a foreign object such as weeds or other tall plant life. It doesn't seem to make a difference whether or not the object is dry or wet. A fellow hunter also notes the same behavior with his XLT-E. Is there a setting that I can alter that will not hurt my general ability to detect objects. I do most of my hunting with the Relic setting.

Hello dryfly caster,

This may be unrelated but, thought I would mention it. I just got my XLT. Seems to run much more stable for me in Coin mode than in Coin & Jewelry. Not sure if it bumps up the sensitivity in other modes or what. I get more signals of course because the lower disc. setting. But, it also falses in Coin & Jewelry and doesn't in Coin only. Just wanted to add this.

You don't say if the cable itself is moving when you bump into stuff. If the cable by the coil moves, then it'll cause a signal because the cable is metal and moving in the coil's field.

Can you use some velcro to lock down the cable near the coil? (Don't pull the cord hard)

Thanks for the thought on the cable. I have not noticed if the cable is moving when I am getting the stray signals. It is a bit loose on the shaft but doesn't appear as though it would move when contacting something as light as grass. However, I plan to secure it a bit tighter to the shaft before I take it out the next time. Last Sun. I went out and I lowered the "PREAMP" setting from from 6 to 5 and then to 4. With each lowering the stray signals seemed to lessen quite a bit.

You may be running the AC and Pre-Amp too high, and with the loop cord lose, can trigger false signals.
