Whites XL-PRO?

I was wondering if Whites can still do repairs on these detectors considering they are analog? Thanks.

My recollection of the machine is that yes, a deep coin will sound softer and rounder.

I thought at the time that this effect was somewhat more pronounced on the 5900 Pro SL and Eagle II SL. The XL was overall brisker and snappier in operation and audio characteristics (maybe in part because it was newer and fresher) but it still had the old White's audio flavor.

Some say the XL is deeper than the old SLs. Could be, but I didn't run across much very deep stuff in most of the places I hunted at that time.

After some time working these machines i often knew what I was digging beforehand thanks to audio information. The meter was also very reliable on "good" targets coming up on the same number every time...but it is the tricky ones you gotta worry about--masked, multi targets, on edge coins, etc..

The last time I bought a new meter, I had to order one with the incorrect face plate (had to buy a meter for the Blue and Gray), but that's no big deal to change out.
What really bothers me is the apparent lack of coils these days. I used to have one of every coil available, and got rid of several. Now I have the itch to get an 800 Royal and a 4x6 and they are scarce as hen's teeth and commanding a premium price! :surprised:

I have heard some say the 6000XL PRO is a little hotter then the XL-PRO? I also hear some say they are the same except for the name change?

They are identical except for the name on the side.

Just got a new board on mine at the end of February. (from Whites in OR)
Good tagets (except on edge) are spot on with the meter up to 5" (so far for me) and the depth indicator is dead on also. Targets deeper than 5" (in dryer soil) sound like good targets but the meter may be off, If it's a coin the depth will be pretty accurate though.

Example-Indian cent at 6" may read in the 40's on the meter. Depth reads 6" though.

Experiment w the Disc. if I get tired of bottlecaps I switch to disc and try to make it disc out on the audio. If it still hits I dig. Works good when I don't want to dig every target.

I sent my QII to Sweet Home for the chip mod and calibration on 5/13/2013, so I don't see why they wouldn't work on your XL

I believe they will work on it.
It's been a couple of years since I had one checked out but was a good thing as there was a problem they fixed.

Really like mine (XL Pro) and have had it for several years. It's to bad that White's never came out with a larger elliptical coil in DD configuration other than the 4x6. . . Don't know their reasoning on this? It would of been sweet though. FYI, if you switch from one coil size to another, the depth reading will be different. Whites calibrated this machine to the 950 coil as far as I know.

As far as detecting quarters, they both read on the VDI as the same, but the only difference is the quarter will be a solid sound detecting both ways and 90 degrees too. The bottlecap will have a double or triple blip (broken) sound. After digging those for awhile, you'll know the difference and likely you'll pass up those doggone bottlecaps.

Good luck in the repair of your XL Pro from Whites.
