White's Vs Tesoro

any opinions as to the differences between White's and Tesoro? ....any and all comparisons will be helpful.I have only used White's and know very little about other brands. Thanks for your time.

You have two different marketed detectors in my opinion. White's is well known for the ability to identify a target and be very adjustable/versatile, where the Tesoro line is more geared toward the person who likes to keep it basic. Both do a very good, job just appeal to different crowds.

its curious because before deciding for my MXT I was thinking on the Vaquero. I think the simplicity and the lifetime-guarantee are the most appealing attributes of the Tesoro, the light-weight is a plus also, but Tesoro users say that to master a Tesoro you have to use it for a long time for you to know the tricks and secrets (...well I think every machine has secrets).

I'm very satisfied with my MXT so far, using this machine is a total joy and I have made my first great finds on the first week using it

I have an MXT and a Tesoro DeLeon. For me, the DeLeon is more fun as it is considerably lighter to swing for long periods - I'm 68 and my arm and shoulder appreciate the lighter weight. As to total versatility and utility, the MXT gets the nod due to the auto ground balance, the three separate modes and the larger display (did I mention I'm 68? so are my eyes). Both machines have an excellent assortment of coils available. For coins shooting in the local parks, fair grounds and the like I enjoy using the DeLeon the most although I have to say I've done well with the MXT for coin shooting too. For relic hunting, mineralized ground, or a bit of prospecting I prefer the MXT. In the end I'm happy that I have both and a good coil selection for either. If I could have only the one, I'd probably lean to the MXT due to the auto ground tracking. As far as either company is concerned, both offer excellent support. Although White's doesn't offer Tesoros lifetime warranty, I'm aware of some cases where they took care of out of warranty problems with no charge or reasonable fees so I'd give them both high marks on customer support. Whichever company offers a machine that most closely fits my needs or wants, I'd go for it.
My two cents,
BB

Both companies are U.S and make fine machines and service what they make, talk to your dealer to evaluate your detector needs and put in the hours needed to learn your machine-it helps to have a fellow detectorist to guide you.

I've owned both. The White's has better target identification. The Tesoro (at least the one I owned) was much faster, though, and lighter. I would definitely choose the Tesoro over the White's for a competition hunt because of target acquisition speed. I so love my XLT, though, that I perhaps didn't use the Tesoro enough before selling it to really know the machine. But it was a good one - really great for turn-on-and-go. I sold it to my buddy who wanted to get his granddaughter into the hobby, and the light weight and simple operation of the Tesoro was a perfect match for her.

Depends on which Whites models you are comparing to which Tesoro models. And it would depend on what type hunting you are about to embark on, with which models/types. Otherwise the question is like chevy Corvettes and chevy Pickup trucks, verses Ford mustangs verses Ford pickups, etc.... You can see in that you can not compare chevys to Fords, unless you ask "which chevy, and which ford?". Because certainly a souped up muscle car 1967 Mustang will knock the socks off a chevy pickup truck, as far as speed, right? And likewise a corvette will knock the socks off a ford pickup truck, when it comes to speed right? And how about carrying capacity: Would you rather haul rocks and dirt in a corvette (or mustang) or a pickup truck (or either brand).

So your question needs to be couched in which machines, and what type hunting, how tolerant you are of junk, your skill-level, etc.. etc...

Tom makes a good point. I've got and used machines from both companies and they've all worked well and found metal. However they each have their strengths and weaknesses, not to mention whether they fit the user's preferences or not - IE target display versus beep and dig, depth capabilities etc. In the end any of the solid models by either company in the hands of someone who's learned it well will find targets with the best of them in my opinion.

tesoro makes a great detector, they just don't have a lot of bells and whistles like the whites detectors. i really like the silver
