Whites Surfmaster PI Pro DF

Alright,
The wife is flying out of town this weekend and I am planning on spending as much time in the Jacksonville water as sun, hunger, and dehydration will allow. I have a few questions on the Surfmaster PI DF:

1. Threshold- My first time out, I set the settings at the factory presets and found the threshold was not steady like the VLF machines I am used to, it seemed to be "percolating" for a better work. Adjusting the gain lower did not seem to help that much. Is this normal on a PI or should the threshold be silky smooth? The delay was set at 7 o'clock position and the threshold to where is was faint.

2. The instruction manual for the machine says the ideal sweep rate is 5 feet per second. Obviously this is close to impossible in the deeper surf. Anyone experienced any issues with a slower sweep rate?

3. My first time out I had a couple of deeper targets I could not get due to the sand filling in. I tried putting my foot in the hole but had sand filling in around it and felt like I was getting stuck. Any tips for a newb other than dig faster? I have an aluminum scoop with a 6" wide bucket.

Thanks in advance,

Jaime

I have never managed to get a silky smooth threshold like on the sovereign, the DF sounds like loads of static on a radio set to no station, I have found that turning the gain way down does help and very little depth is lost even though sometimes i'm down as far as to 9 o'clock,(mostly 10-11 though) you have to concentrate but the targets come through, Tried the delay too with little success.
I usually fine tune on my first deepish target of the day and go from there, on diferent beaches i can get it smoother than others, either way its still noisy but deep arround here.
