White's Surf Pro PI VS. Garret Sea Hunter Mark2 ?

Maui Mike

New member
Well after nearly going blind reading forums , and a million opinions everywhere i am finally "this " close to making the buy..
Down to " White's Surf Pro PI" VS, " Garret's Sea hunter Mark 2"
I'll be snorkeling and diving, to harvest.. hehehe..
Finall thoughts from you all would help this very tired brain.:look:
Which one? both look good
Thanks to all for all the in-put all over this and other forums ,Maui Mike
P.S. Later when i get enough i will be buying a Excal ( after a few good finds) :clapping:

Save your money on the Excal. because its not all that.If you enjoy tuning every 2 min...... OK, I had the same problem and went with the Whites PI PRO.It was the detector of choice by 2 to1 on the beach.I leave in FL on the coast at St. Augustine and there lots of detectors but for every other name brand there were Whites Surf pro.I'm not knocking the Garretts but the depth, quality, and easy use makes it the choice for me.And right now Kellyco has them on sale for 594.00 with free shipping and tons of freebies.
PS.I watched a guy using a Excal. And he said he with he had bought something else 10 times over because of it taking the fun out of it.But any way WHITES SURF PRO!!! :)
Chris

Thanks speedbiu:thumbup:, i really have been trying to do the research before the buy... too many things are bought on a whim, with no or little to no research.. your swaying me towards the Whites, Huge Mahalo Mike

Hey,I have a Tesoro bandito ll and was in no hurry to buy one,I walked the beaches for 6 weeks looking and talking to other hunters and the Whites Surf Pro was at the top of the wanted list or next detector if they didn't have one there.Buy a new one becuase the last one on ebay was last week and sold for 510.00 used. So they also hold there value.I started casually looking last year so I really studied what people said about the service after the sales too. Also unless you are going to do lots of diving buy the unweighted coil the other one is 10oz heavier. If you buy one I will tell you how to weight the end down for diving and save tons of money.

Its my opinion that the PI PRO is deeper and more stable than the Garrett Seahunter although some love it, my buddy hated his as it was noisy in the surf and he sold it and then bought a PI PRO.. If you get good with a PI you won't want a VLF machine in the water because a VLF isn't as deep and you don't have to worry about finding alot of trash in the water.. If you are looking for a decent VLF take a look at the Detector Pro Diver or Wader it discriminates out bottlecaps where a more expensive detector doesn't thats all I'm gonna say about that :)

Thanks much all, seems the Ol' scales are a tippin in the White's direction! and Chris looks like that Tip.. maybe be needed after all,Mahalo Mike:clapping:

I like the Excal. I have the II and it has yielded excellent result. I have yet to try an PI machine but I know that not having discrimination can have you digging a lot of fish hooks and lump iron. The Excal discriminates a lot of junk (your still gonna dig some anyway) and goes as deep as you want to dig. I have dug targets up to 2 feet (any more than that and you are tearing yourself a new one for a coke can typically). I would like to try a PI sometime though...just to see if there is that big a difference. Also, isnt white supposed to be coming out with a discriminating PI machine soon. Should be the hot new ticket if its worth a red cent.

Hey Dig, thats good news on the up-coming machine, dont think i can wait... i have the MD itch so bad... my wife is about ready to go to the drawer... hand me a magnet.. and send me packing into the backyard....

I have to be honest with you.. I had a Excal and after using a PI it did not impress me.. I was finding just as much trash with the Excal as I was with my PI.. I never dug iron chunks with my PI I knew by sound what they sounded like as well as cans.. I found the Excal loved bottlecaps so it could be fooled.. I didn't like the slow recovery time after nulling out over iron, there were too many minus' for me using it.. I'm a PI guy and always will be :) I can swing my PI and cover more area than I could with the Excal and when tides coming in and I'm working a deep water trough time is of the essense.. Been there done that I'm a happy camper with my PI :)

I have had the Excal and own the Sea Hunter II and also the Infinium LS now, First time to own the Garrett brand and like them fine. I found in the water you should dig almost everything so now the PI rules very deep! Whites makes a great product I have not owned the Surf Pro PI but may someday, With your volcanic soil go PI for sure what ever brand you choose. Tom

Craig...what do you think about the new whites PI unit then? Heard anything interesting? The idea of discrimination sounds interesting...Could be a nice mix of depth and disc.

Craig and Dig.. any news on that new unit would be awesome,,, i might even hold off buying if that new unit is soon here... Mahalo Mike
p.s. i'm off to go out on the boat right now to Molokini,, " my day off' just to use my eyes to look for rings,,, yup.. Money KIni..... lol back later

I heard its deep as heck but its going to be pricey.. For now I'll stick with my PRO... if and when a waterproof PI comes out then I'll take a look.. I don't want a non-waterproof PI..

White's Surf PI Pro... seems to be it!... say's Good to 100 FT.. well thats for me!.. told the wife i will research till this week-end.... she's the one that told me" Research for a couple of weeks and make a good decision" and buy the right one.. gotta hand it to my wife, plan well.. buy once....and as for yesterdays swim in Molokini.. one ring.. 14 carat gold with nice weaved inlay!.. just laying there in the coral waitting to be rescued... " I'll save you i said!" and is on my night stand now. that was just with me own eyes.. man i can't wait to get a MD aloha all. will take a pic and add in a bit. :clapping:
