Whites Surf PI Pro Straight Shaft

I built a straight shaft for my Whites Surf PI Pro. I used 7/8" polished aluminum tubing, a bicycle handlebar extension and hand grip. The arm cuff is stock. Total cost for the materials was about $35.00.

I mounted the control box behind the arm cuff to see how it balances. I may take it over to the coast tomorrow for a trial run.

So, how do you like it?

you can move your detector control box...up or down to adj felt wieght and balance!! sure beats shelling out $80++ bucks to buy one!! nice work!! :detecting:A.D.D:twodetecting:  THATS FUNNY!!! SHOULD MAKE UP T-SHIRTS!!!

Hi BEACH HUNTER,

I took it out for a test run on Sunday and I like it quite well. It is well balanced.

I never liked the way the stock shaft felt, mainly the curve for the handle. It was uncomfortable for me. This one is much more comfortable.

Thanks for the thumbs up!

Thanks!

I bought the tubing at a local Boater's World store. I think it's used for railing. Here's a link...

Just thinking 6' Length means ft ???

Yes. The tubes are six feet long. If you have a Boater's World near you, they usually stock them in the store. They also have stainless steel tubes, but they are heavier and twice the price.

No welding. The handle is a bicycle handlebar extension. It just bolts on.

hi great tip on the tubing, i went a little another way on a couple things. first it don't matter what you do, with the weighted coil its heavy.
the other things i did was i got a y with set screws for my handle so it won't move, i also cut my pipe a little shorter so i can use the stock lower rod. i was afraid the coil would false being close to it. it looks a lot longer with the box in the back, but the stock setup kills your wrist. great idea thanks for the info.
ill post pics as soon as i figure out how to. pi pro

Sounds good! I'd like to see your pics.

When you reply, go to "Upload Photo...", then "Browse..." for your picture and "Attach Photo". "Preview", you should see the pic, and then "Post message" like as usual.

Nice improvement!
Better than hip mount and worrying about caught up cables!
