whites surf pi pro for fresh water

Is PI PRO good for fresh water as well? Of for salt water only? I am going to visit a place with lots of small rivers soon. Abroad.

Another question. I did not know about "light" and "heavy" coils when ordered my PI PRO from Kellyco, and the salesperson did not mention the two options. Is the light coil really so bad like everyone says? That it floats in the water and one has to push it down constantly instead of metaldetecting?

I have no experience with MDing in water and a very little one with MDing in general. Two times only so far. Did not find nothing.

The unit would be a poor fresh water choice in imo. There is very little deterioration of any metals in fresh water and you will get signals of every metallic object out there. The weighted coil would be much preferred in water hunting. Best of luck in your decision mate. I have hunted a PI in fresh water and it ain't fun, don't go there!

Gulf Hunter is absolutely right. A PI in fresh water is no good at all. In salt water iron rusts away. In fresh water it is around for a VERY long time. Every little nail, bobbypin, screw, can piece, you name it, the PI will find it. You will be VERY dissapointed.

Thank you for help!
So which machine is to be used in fresh water? I also purchased MXT. But it is not water proof!

I was confident that I am all set for my trip. Now I am at a loss.

Please help more with your good advice!

I have used my PI in freshwater once I founds lots of rings but digging all that other stuff.. never again..lol... Take a look at the Detector Pro Wader or Diver you have many good choices out there.. the Whites BeachHunter does great in the freshwater.. The Tereso Tiger Shark does very well to.

I dont know squat about fresh water stuff but, wouldnt an Excal's iron dsicrimination work great in the fresh stuff???

Unfortunatelly I have no time to buy anything now as I am leaving on my trip on Friday.
So, my question now is - should I still take with me both PI PRO (for shallow rever)and MXT (for land)? Or just MXT (for both - land and fresh water)? Is MXT suitable for fresh water up to the knee-waist deep?
Or I am just out of luck and won`t be able to detect in fresh water ths time? at all

It will be very unfortunate as I wanted to devote my trip to river/lake detecting, cannot cancel it now, and purchased both MXT and SURF PI PRO exactly for this reason. One opportunity in several years.

Ideas?

I can only comment on one part of your question. If you do use your MXT in the water, BE EXTREMLY CAREFUL that you do NOT raise the coil higher than the control box. AND do NOT reach down to get a target and submerse the control box. Don't laugh, I did BOTH. Fried a Spectrum and had to spend BUCKS to get my DFX repaired. You might want to try the PI where your going. Good luck on whetever you decide. I wouldn't give up detecting though!!

To weight the coil down in water, take an old sock along and fill it with enough sand to hold the coil on the bottom. It can be tied to the rod just at the coil. This should get you by for the water hunting.Good luck and enjoy your trip.

If you have no time to get another detector use the PI so what if you have to dig everythin, you won't miss anything..

I have the light coil and it doesn't flop around or it hasn't hurt me in anyway detecting.. I did put on a coil stabilzer which locks the coil in place so it does not move.. also the detector is so light I don't feel anything holding it down which BTW I hold it where the S starts in the handle. You will do fine..
