Yeah, I think so.
I recently purchased one but I don't have it yet so I haven't done a field test. However, I have done a side by side weight comparison with the Excelerator and the super 12 is lighter. Remember, increased depth is a bi-product of a larger coil. The coil is designed to cover more ground. It has been my experience that you may or may not get an increase in depth with a larger coil because you usually have to reduce sensitivity to maintain stability. That's why a larger coil (especially concentric) works better in an open field situation where you need to cover a lot of ground with each sweep. You also have the added benefit of picking up targets on the "fringe" with a concentric coil that you don't have with the DD. Don't misunderstand me, I also hunt with a 10" excelerator and love it, so I'm not putting them down. I just think that in the right application the super 12 would be the coil of choice. If you were beach hunting I would definately recommend the 12.5" or 14" Excelerator but if I'm gonna do that I'd rather use my Excalibur or PI Pro. Hope this helps.
