Whites - ProStar Headphones - Opinions?

[size=medium]I just picked up a pair of new White's ProStar headphones for $70. I haven't had a chance to use them yet and was wondering if anyone uses them or has used them and what their opinion is. The lifetime warranty by Whites and being Made in America were influential in my purchase. I know they have 50 ohm speakers which is about 1/3 the ohm of the other top line headphones.

I have a pair of Koss UR30s that I bought and really like them. The fit my head and my ears comfortably. The problem is my MXT Pro and IDX do not have a volume control and I've had to buy a 1/8" in-line volume control which looks like it will break very easy.

Thanks for looking and responding.

Well it depends on one's hearing. I can still hear ok but I am losing the top end of it so to speak. Anyhow I have been using the ol GT royal White's headphones and they are at 32ohms. I didn't realize the difference in headphones. Just assumed a set of headphones was just a set of headphones. I just purchased a set of Killer B's, very well made and comfortable headphones and they are 150 ohms. For me they were just too shrill. I had a hard time with them. To me i hear the lower bass sounds much better then the high shrill the 150 ohms make. So I got a hold of Monte, he likes Killer B's so I traded him straight across for a set of the 50 ohm pro Stars. There in the mail and should have them Sat. So like you I am hoping they work well. Also got a set of treasure ears, cheaper headphones made by Detector Pro, because they are at 32ohms.
So if your lucky and live close to a dealer etc, it might be worth trying a few sets before you buy.

I have a set of the Whites ProStar's and they really sound great. The only drawback is they fit really tight on my head and I prefer a more comfortable fit. I have the same issue with GG or other phones that are made to block out a lot of noise. I am hoping in time that they will loosen up a bit but I don't know.

Tried the new Pro Stars and the sound to me is much better then the killer B's. I like the deeper tones, just wish they were as comfortable though. As pescadore said they do fit tight, i think I have cracks running thru my skull cap now. But when I am not using them, I keep them spread open using a small box to help take some if the tightness out of them.

Think it's probably a fluke but I was pulling my headphones off yesterday and the headband stapped in two. I sent them back to Whites for repair. I really like the headphones for their sound and will miss them even though they are so tight on my head. I have no doubt that Whites will take care of the problem and get them back to me quickly. Great Customer Service !!!

Opinions are helpful. But it comes down to what you like/prefer. Comfort around the head and ears. Sound mellow/soft/Bassy/shrill, etc. etc.

Heck,I'd give 'em a try. . . if not to your liking, try another pair. Maybe one of your hunting buddies can let you borrow another pair for an hour or so.

Good Luck and HH,

TC-NM

Thanks for the comments. I really like the sound of the Prostate but they are tight. I thought it was just my fat head. I'm going to use a blow dryer and see if I can warm the head band enough to open it wider without breaking it.
