WHITES NEW M6

Hello I am new to this forum I have been following all the posts on the new M6.I am getting to the point that I cant make up my mind.I was considering the Exterra 50 but would prefer to stay with Whites.I would like a second Detector and don't want to make a bad decision.Any feedback would be appreciated THANKS SEEGY

I don't think it would be possible to "make a bad decision" when choosing between two great machines. Haven't used the M-6 yet, but the Xterra is X-cellent. Main advantage on the side of the Xterra is the notch discrimination function. Main advantage on the side of the M-6 is the auto-tracking ground balance. Best option might be to just sit down, look at the features of both machines, and then decide which appeal to you most. Performance wise, the only way to know in YOUR soil conditions is to have both available for a side-by-side evaluation.

But like I said, you can't make a "bad" decision between these two........IMO

Seegy,

As Ralph stated, both are excellent detectors and leaders in that under 700.00 price range.

I've used both of them and they are competitive in Depth, with the edge going to the M6 in terms of lower conductive targets. The X-Terra 50 @ 7.5 kHz will be a bit stronger on the silver.

As Ralph indicated, both are Great Choices, each with their strong points regarding features; The Xterra 50 offers notching which allows you to ignore given ranges of targets. The Drawback of notching is you could notch OUT a surface or shallow target and MASK a deeper notched IN target like a silver coin.

The M6 offers Seven TONE ID v Four of the Xterra 50.

The M6's state of the art ground tracking gives it a big edge in terms of neutralizing ground noise. The Xterra 50's manual ground balancing is easy to engage but will not track when the mineral changes, so an occasional ground balance check is recommended in non-homogenous ground.

Both have a very good balance and feel. The Xterra has a lighter feel to me.

The Xterra also has a 18.5 kHz loop which definitely increases the signal on lower conductors, better than the M6, but the reaction to smaller ferrous is increased as in the Tesoro Tejon and Troy X3/5 series which operate at 17+ kHz.

A wider range of coil configurations is available for the M6.

Both are excellent choices at under $700.00.

Hi seegy,

Sounds like you answered your own question. You prefer to stay with White's, and there sure is nothing in the M6 that should drive you away.

The M6 and X-Terra are both good detectors. Both will find most targets the other will. There are in a similar price bracket. So I think it mostly comes down to personal preference issues as to which machine you would like the most. Lots of us have favorite brands and nothing wrong with going with your feelings there. The features on both machines pretty much speak for themselves.

One area I do think the M6 has a clear edge in is the coil selection. All the coil made by White's and third parties for the MXT and DFX work with the M6. Everything from the little 4"x6" DD Shooter to the 18" DD Excelerator and specialty coils like the 18"x3" Bigfoot. Sunray also has a probe for the MXT that should work on the M6. If you are into accessory coils then the M6 has a huge lead in that department.

a good idea because I haven't used the X-Terra yet but I'm sure it is an excellent machine BUT I have used the M6 since it came out and I am very impressed with it... Relic hunting or coin hunting, it should feel the needs... It would be good if you could try them both before making a decision...Thanks and best to you, Richardntn

I've read a lot about the New Whites M6, but I find no reference as to how much the M6 weighs in comparison to the 2.9lbs of the X-Terra 50. Weight is a big issue with me :) when considering a new detector in the future. I'd rather stay with Whites.
