White's MPX and M6....looking for opinions

Haven't used a White's detector in over 10 years. Last I had was a 6000 DI if my foggy memory serves me. Was ruined when basement flooded:cry: It was a great machine and I did alright finding silver. Thought I'd try something different and bought a used Tesoro Cibola. But I miss the analog readout and I think the White's depth was better. Anyway was thinking of adding a mid value White's.

Wondering if anyone has used the MPX and what they think of it? There is a dealer who has a few new ones but they were scratched in delivery and he is offering them at less than $250. Was also looking at the M6 Matrix. Is it worth the extra bucks? I've detected off and on for around 25 years (hard to get rid of this dang bug!!!) I've read a few reviews but can never hurt to get more opinions. So, I've come to this board since there are many members. Also, wondering what is a fair price for a used M6 in good condition....say a year old? Also, what can one expect to pay brand new....I know the MSRP is $699. Thanks everyone for your help.

I have a M6 that I bought used and paid about $350 for. It was selling for $599 new a few months ago. It has done a good job for me and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I have an M6 and couldn't be happier, very easy to use, sensitive, deep. I bought a 5.3 eclipse coil for the trashy areas to go with the stock 950 and seldom take it off. If you want to make finds with no tinkering around you can't go wrong with this machine. Love the tones too, turn the disc down and hunt by ear.
You pay for technology, you can find stuff with any detector, you could pay for your detector many times over the first time out no matter what the price. Making up a few hundred dollars won't take long, it's worth it.

The MPX is NOT a white's detector and you shouldn't spend your money on one. The MXT is a White's detector and an excellent one at that. The White's M6 would be my choice for coin shooting between the two White's machines mentioned. Very easy to use and gives you a choice of tone ID or not, and it runs a little quieter than the MXT. If you plan on doing any prospecting and/or relic hunting then the MXT would be a better choice.

Tom,

Thanks for pointing that out about the MPX.....I completely misread the details in the ad. My bad. Right now I'm leaning hard towards the M6, although I did run across a 6000D Series 2 on Craigslist for $80. If it's available and in good shape I might pick it up and get the hip mount conversion kit and still get the M6.
