Whites Metal Detectors............Have they discontinued the E-series XLT ?

I know someone that wants to sell a 2010 model for $425.00 but I can't find any info on whether that's a good buy or not? Any ideas?

Yes, White's will discontinue the XLT. The DFX, then DFX300 replaced it as the top of the line machine with the MXT and MXT Pro at the price point below the XLT. If the MXT's came with a rechargeable battery pack and charger, they would retail very close to the XLT. The DFX, while having the same pre-set factory program names are a bit more agressive than the same name programs in the XLT. The DFX is super deep and super quite when hunting wet salt sand

Now the V3i is the top of the line machine. I personally prefer the DFX / DFX300 and MXT / MXT Pro over the XLT. The $425 is below dealer price for a new XLT.

Those who really get into tweeking the V3i find it a very good machine. I'm a turn the knob and flip the switches kind of guy, that's why I prefer the MXT's for instant / quick set up changes as necessary.

At one time there was an issue with obtainig the chip that was used in the XLT and Whites was considering ending production. I have not kept up on any further developments.

The XLT was my first machine that introduced me to the world of metal detecting. Nothing like jumping into the deep end of the pool, especially not knowing any thing at all about metal detecting back in 1999. Regardless once I learned it, the XLT found me some nice things.

You'll always have the secondary market when it comes to detectors so you can always find on long after White's stops producing them. I found myself two great discontinued machines used, the 5900 Di Pro SL (no longer have.), and the XL Pro (never getting rid of.). So XLT's will still be around for a good long time to come.

I like my V3i and MXT as the two primary detectors and the XL Pro gets used from time to time as well. With those three detectors I believe I have the spectrum covered from a frequency standpoint. Some crazy fellow even tried to talk me into a TDI a while back but that detector would have never been used by me.

However, if I ever get the itch to go prospecting, I'd consider the TDI over the GMT only because the TDI would seem to me to be a better fit for prospecting and other detecting aspects where I believe the GMT is more of a unitasker when it comes to detecting.

Bottom line, yes that is a great price for an XLT and if I was in the market, it would be money well spent on a quality detector.

I have my XLT Spectrum and really liked using it! Don't intend to let it go until I am dead or moving on from my home! I found lots of coins and etc. with it and would sure like to still be using it but healthwise, with COPD and weak legs, I can't go by myself and most of those I went detecting with are either passed away or too old to go detecting with health problems of their own! I've had lots of hobbies but MD'ing was the one I enjoyed best! I purchased mine new in November 1994 as a Christmas package and sorry to hear that they aren't being produced any more....may not have gone deep, but deep enough for me as I didn't like digging deeper holes! Keep healthy and keep on :detecting:   Ma

When I first started the hobby the XLT just come out but I when with the 6000.All that high tek stuff I didn't thing I'd like.Went to my first club hunt that year and yep I got first prize which was the XLT.Still got it,still love it.

The "all in one" metal detecting sandals

Hi Lorraine, they have something similar to that on the Meteorite Men who dig deep for meteorites...they make lots of money off several little finds and large ones! Too much work and traveling for me though!  Ma Betty
