WHITES MACHINES ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!

HEY GANG,

Help me out here, I find reference to a Surf PI PRO, a Beach Hunter ID, a Beach Hunter 300, and a Surf PI Dual Field detector. The only thing listed on line at the WHITE'S Web Site are the Surf PI PRO AND THE Beach Hunter ID. Can someone sort this out for me???

Is the Dual Field Machine availible and is it a PI Machine??? What are the differences and/or advantages of the others??? Are they all PI Machines???

I'm intriqued by what I read, if only I could get more info.(Specifics as to features and possibly prices would be nice)

Many thanks one and all,

Cupajo

The BeachHunter ID and The BeachHunter 300 are the same machine except the 300 has a 12 inch coil..

The PI PRO and the Dual and PI's from what I understand the new Dual Field is replacing the PI PRO.. the dual field has a 12 inch coil added as well and a adjustable pulse delay ...

The Surf PI Pro and the PI Pro Dual Field are both in stock at Whites right now. I bought the PI Pro today as I got a good deal on it and didn't wan't to spend the extra $300 on the DF. The DF is listed on their site but you have to click through from the first page where it's blinking back and forth between it and another detector. I think they just haven't got the DF into their regular listings yet on the "all detectors" pages.

Wait till u take a Pi too the beach........\>>>>>> I went sat am and dug for 41/2 hrs walked about 4mi and dug about 20+ holes and most of them were 18-20in deep 1 silver earring and about $3.85 in change, 1lb of iron, nails bobbiepins................all i need is 14 women with 1 ear but i did get 1 pr so if u like to dig deep and often then the PI is the way to go lolololol :goodnight:

You're right... PI's find nothing but trash... you keep thinking that :)

I had a hard time deciding on the pi or the beachhunter. I went with the beachhunter got it Thurs. took it out Friday for about 15minutes walked into the surf a little above knee deep, waves hit me, decided that I would go back in around ankle deep until I got the machine down. Well it started acting crazy, static, and I turned it off turned it back on nothing but a buz. I went over to the chair, undid it out of the yellow case and guess what? I had water drops inside the housing. EXCUSE ME BRAND NEW MACHINE...BRAND NEW WATER MACHINE. What the heck??? I have to tell you I :cry:cried, because I planned this whole detecting trip for the weekend, spent $150 a night on a hotel, and within 15 minutes it was ruined. I could not even bring myself to go back down to the beach after that cause all I keep seeing was all the metal detecting I was missing. I usually drag a couple machines with me and only use one. This time I only brought the BH so that I would make myself learn it and look what happend:rage:

I will be calling the dealer tomorrow and getting things straight, the thing is after this mess I don't know if I even want a Beachhunter anymore, maybe a PI, or perhaps not a Whites at all. I will tell you this I did not like the whole coil floating thing on it to begin with. Has anyone else had this problem with the beach hunter? Is the pi better? Is it sealed because honestly after seeing the housing unit on the beach hunter held together by screws I am not so certain I trust that.

I don't mean to take over your tread so to answer your question a pi goes deeper but does not disc. the beach hunter has discrimination, and the id300, and dual are just the new and improved versions of the others.

I never liked the battery compartment on the BeachHunter as its not as good a seal as on the PI... its one of the reasons I sold mine..

I really don't know how it got in, all I know is the housing which is clear has small droplets in it. I am assuming it was sealed or the screws tightend all the way. I was tempted to unscrew the housing and take a look and try to dry it out, but I didn't want to do anything to it since I am sending it back to the dealer and didn't want to tamper with it further.

since we now know you got a machine with the black gasket that explains why it leaked. They should all be orange or red now.

Good luck with the dealer on getting your money back.

sorry I also didn't mean to highjack your thread....

i had a beach hunter id a few yrs back and i used it for about 6 months . i found some nice blings and things . but i must say it is hot on junk iron ..... and the id lights well they were somewhat of a joke except for coins . it wouldnt differentiate between a boat anchor and a gold ring . sometimes it id'd properly but seldom. it did id better when you were air testing but not in the water. so basically if you dont mind digging like a badger on crack . it is not a bad machine . you just have to dig evrything and dont trust the lights . because for the first month i did not dig the targets that were id'd as iron . untill one day i decided to dig em all and i found a gold ring that id'd as iron untill i dug it up and air tested it . then it id'd as jewelry. and i was not amused. i have had alot of other water machines . i started with a tesoro tiger-shark which i did like alot as it is one of the only machines that when properly ground balanced can find fine gold chains and bracelets easily . but again you have ti dig all signals to get the good stuff. then i went on to the beach hunter id and on to a fisher 1280 x which was a good solid machine all around . then i bought an excal 800 and it was a bit harder to figure out but when i did wow what a difference . all that pesky iron and those obnoxious bobby-pins just disappeared into the past . then i got a cz 20 and i loved that machine it was solid as a rock and easier to use i felt than an excal but you had to dig more junk than with the excal . i used the cz20 and the excal for several seasons together then i sold the excal 800 and got an excal 1000 and i loved it . i have since sold the cz and replaced it with another excal 800 . and this year i replaced. the excal 1000 with a 10" excal 2 . i use the 800 for tight junky areas and as a backup for the excal 2 . additionally i usually detect fresh water only and on average 4-5 times a week for a minimum of 8 hours each day and usually closer to 10 hours . i would say i average about 1000 hrs a season . it is not a casual hobby for me as i do it to supplement my income. after i injured my back 8 years ago .so its more like a really fun job and great exercise for my back problems . and i dont have to bend over to recover targets when im in the water. i can only detect on land for maybe an hour before my back goes haywire .

To each their own... I use and love a PI... I learned what a bobbiepin sounded like and rarely if ever dig them and I don't have nor want a discriminating machine.. I'll take my PI over a VLF detector anyday of the week because I'll find the deep gold a VLF can't see :) Tell you what.. I'll dig some extra iron if it gets me deeper than you and your VLF and I know it is because I used to run the top of the line VLF and knew I was getting less depth than my PI was so I went back... I hear all this talk about bobbiepins.. well your detector sure loves bottlecaps and last time I looked they were made of iron ;)

Are you serious? MDing for extra income? WOW!

I am myself pretty much new to MDing and in eight months swinging my best loot never was more than $3.00 after five-six hours of hunting (record is $3.97). But I am newby. But when I ask old timers when it was last time that their finds were of substantial material value - they typically say - "about ten years ago"/

I see them every day first hand. With their ultra expensive Minelabs, with their custom made scoops and in their diving gear. Collecting those mear cents and dimes exactly like I do.

My firm belief is that MDing in this country is only a hobby that REQUIRES money to spend. Not PRODUCING money. Washing dishes in McDonalds is ten times more profitable enterprise money-wise.

I am really happy to see a person who has a different perception of treasure hunting in our country.

i am serious about the extra income and i research all winter long and in the spring i have usually 1 or 2 old forgotten beaches up my sleeve . sometimes it pans out at the old sites . sometimes not . and i have about 40 beaches within 25 miles of my house that are moderately used . when i detect i dont find gold every time sometimes i dont find gold for several days but i always find change . and that usually pays for the gas on average . also my best year hunting a few yrs ago i found over 40 gold rings with about 10 -12 diamond rings and around 60 or so silver rings . i sell the nice gold rings to individuals throughout the year and the rest i scrap . that year i sent almost 6 ounces of mixed gold to midwest refineries and even at 400 an ounce it afforded me a new excal . i see that as income however it may not pay my bills but it usually pays for my hobby and then some which i usually use for extra or new equipment . this is the only hobby i have ever seen that will pay for itself but the key to that for me is persistence pays off. i have seen so many hunters over the years who show up at the beach and for whatever reason they hunt for an hour or two or three , then they pack up and leave . so i see it as it costs them 3 or 4 times more per hour to detect because i detect 3-4 times longer than they do. and i only have to buy 1 lunch and make one trip to the beach . they would have to pay for 3 trips to the beach to get the same detecting time as i get in one day . which ultimately costs them more time and money and finds in the long run. i understand that alot of people have family and kids and full time jobs and other obligations and or limitations that may prevent them from detecting as long as i do . but i am self employed and it affords me more freedom than many people. before i injured my back i worked in the utility field and regularly worked 80-90 hours a week and never had time for anything until winter when i would get laid off then i would work on my business during the winter. but now my summers are much more free as i cant do utility work anymore. and now metal detecting fills that gap for me and it does pay for itself and i consider that income.

What I said was not a mistrust in your words but a true surprise that MDing here can bring any monetary profit at all ( I hope to be excused by those lucky THers who post every day fresh pictures of tons of gold found with their metal detectors!)

What I see in real life is - "professional" hunters with 30+ years of MDing experience and top of the line machines and outfit/equipment who collect $1.66 clad in five hours of swinging. But it is greater NY metropolitan are. I am happy that yours is so much different.

I am truly glad that you did not take my words as an offense. For whatever reason people here are extremelly sensitive to words and easily irritateable and angryable. For me it is another mistery as I cannot imagine a more relaxing and calming for soul and mind activity than metal detecting, when those headphones create a temporary shield from the outside mercyless and greedy corporate life of today.

After five hours at a beach with $2.16 in newly found change money in my poket I am a much happier person than I was before going to the beach! Thank you Whites for your genious machines! It is not your fault that there is no equally good place to use them.

HH!!

I hear where you are coming from Micro ;) We don't have beaches where we can get the amount of goodies other parts of the country get.. but if you do your research you will find gold and enough to make you happy... , first 2 years I averaged 50 gold rings per year.. this year I probably won't reach 50 but I'll be close for sure.. I couldn't detect at all for close to 3 months having pneumonia... If I sold my gold I could make a pretty good sum but I'm not in the hobby to sell at least not now.. I have sold some but only the broken or bent rings and I did sell a few to others to use when they got married :) plus I gave away a few rings to the wife and other family members..
