Whites M6 or IDX pro?

coinspader

Well-known member
I am trying to choose between an M6 or an IDX pro, I hunt in medium mineralized soil mostly in park situations. Any opinions?

Hello.

Depending on the availability of coils I'd go for the M6, plus it has tone ID. IMHO

All the Best

Never used an Idx, have read great things but the M6 is a great and very underated machine. My Pops has been using one for years now and regularly spanks my rear. I can't believe how well this seemingly simple machine works. Detech 8x6 makes it even better.

I ended up getting a really good deal on a QXT, not as good as the M6 but I have a lot of fun using them :detecting:

That will compliment the standard coil for all around coin hunting applications.

ive owened both. go with the m6.

I've had both too, and I'd also say go with the M6. The IDX Pro is an excellent detector and does great in the trash, but the M6 is just as good and includes some extra features over the IDX like tones, a depth meter, a numerical TID, and an excellent auto tracking ground balance system. There are probably unique situations where the IDX 6.59 kHz does better than the M6's 14 kHz. (Here's a good discussion: https://www.findmall.com/read.php?31,2106791)

Hard choice though, because the IDX is an awesome detector. It's just that the M6 is even better when you consider the whole package, imho.

They both complement each other

My vote is with the IDX Pro that has the Mr. Bill mod. It is good in the trash with any of the small 6½" concentric 6.59 kHz coils. There are three variations...namely the BlueMax 600, the 5.3 BlackMax and the newest, the 5.3 BullsEye. They also have the smaller 4½" BlueMax 350 "Snooper coil that is good, but kinda small and not as deep as the 6½" coils. The best coil I have found for this machine is also a rare coil, the 5½" Ferret "Hot Head" made by the defunct metal detector company "Discovery Electronics."

My IDX Pro with the Ferret coil will air test a dime at 8½" and will do the same in the ground while ignoring nearby nails. It is extreemly fast recovering in the nails with this combo.
