Whites M6 does not like Pro Pointer. Help!

I finally got out for about 45 mins today near a home site with the M6 to use it for the first time. I didn't find anything but a couple pieces of trash but did not know what to expect at the area I was in but was really hoping to find at least a coin or two. I have a problem though when I was trying to recover some targets with my Garrett Pro Pointer. When I would switch it on it would cause a lot of static and noise through the detector and headphones. :rage: Normally I can slightly hear the pro pointer go off but not with all the noise going on. I would switch it off and then the detector would go silent once again. I tried to call Whites but couldn't get in touch with anyone so I am posting here as well. Is this normal for the M6? Is there a fix to stop this at all? I tried setting the machine as far away as headphones would allow but I still got the annoying noise so that is not a fix. Besides going with a different pin pointer, a sun ray probe or a different detector, is there something I can do? Thank you.

This is a common problem with the Whites 14.7 kHz machines like the M6 and MXT's. All you can do is turn the sens down on the M6 while recovering your target with the Propointer. It gets to be a pain though.. I suggested to Garrett to either make a different frequency Propointer that is compatible with other brands or some way of switching frequencies. This could be done with the switch like say turning it off and on 5 times real fast to switch frequencies?

Well that stinks:thumbdown: If I have to do something like that every single recovery then it's not hardly worth it, unfortunately. I love my pro pointer and would not part with it lightly. I would have to really, and I mean really fall in love with this M6 and spending $200 on the Sun Ray probe would not be worth it otherwise.

I know how you feel. You can pick up a used Bulseye pretty cheap and they work fine with the Whites of course. I'm not really sure why Whites hasn't came out with a auto tuning more powerful pinpointer yet?

Maybe trade for or find a used Sun-Ray in-line probe. They are incredible in my opinion. Good luck. HH. Matt

If wearing headphone with stereo and mono switch just hit it to make them silent..Alternative is to turn the detector 90 degrees to you and set it down with the coil as far away as possible..

Yea, I can't get rid of my pro pointer as the sun ray will only follow the whites machine and I need the pro pointer for other machines. I do have the switch on my head phones, the sun ray golds, so that's an option I suppose. I will also try laying the detector down in different ways as well. I just get really dirty and muddy at times wearing gloves and can just imagine that grime transferring to my good, clean head phones with twice every time I go to recover a target, once to silence it and again to turn it back on. There really seems to be no easy solution besides going with the sun ray probe or other pin pointer or deciding to keep the pro pointer and give the M6 the boot. I just got it and it seems like it has the potential to be a good machine but the pro pointer was here first and I could get out of the whites what I paid for it.

Ok, got out this afternoon for another hunt at a large park and I did much better. I got in the habit of laying the detector out at the 1 and 2 o'clock position from my orientation instead of the 12 o'clock position and it cut down on the interference noise to a more tolerable level to where I could put up with it. I didn't exactly get rich today but found a little bit of clad, a wheat cent and a small childs silver ring. There just was not a whole lot to be found at this particular park but if I got close to a coin the M6 would sure let me know I had one under the coil! It is so dry here though that the digging is very difficult and I did not want to recover anything below 5 inches but the coin signals I was getting did not go that deep at this location. I did not dig any nickels and was disappointed in that. I just dont think there was any to be found. I dug a couple signals that jumped from 18-22 but were tabs. I did not find that solid 18-20 nickel signal I was looking for so that's why I don't think I got the coil over them. I'm anxious now to get some rain and go hit some sites that will have a better abundance of coins to be found to see how much the M6 can vacuum up.

My friend had the same problem with the M6/MXT in that the ProPointer was driving it crazy. That's part of the reason he got rid of it.

It's tolerable now as long as I lay the detector down at the right angle so I don't think I'm gonna get rid of the M6 just yet. It did pretty good for me this afternoon and I want to use it some more and compare it to an AT Pro I have coming soon to see how they stack up to each other. I would hate to get rid of it just b/c it did not play well with my pro pointer, so I'm glad I have a method that works well now. If I get rid of it then it will be b/c I find something that works better for me. I still want to try an Omega and will see how the at pro does when it gets here.

I would say try unplugging your headphones from the detector but that will wear out the jack over time probably.
