whites idx

Hello everyone. I recently picked up a "like new " idx pro from a widow. She told me her husband never used it. First thing I did was put fresh batteries in it. I am having some issues with it. On an air test with a one Troy ounce silver coin I can barely pick it up at 4 inches. I am using quality headphones. My plan was to get a 15 inch coil an search for deeper objects. Anyone have any ideas? Could it be a bad coil? There seems to be a fairly loud thresh hold noise when the coil is away from everything. And when I disconnect the coil wire from the box the noise goes away. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would like to get the Mr. Bill mods done to it. And iam trying to save money and avoid sending it to whites first. Thank you in advance.

You say there is a loud threshold noise where the coil is away from everything. Is the pinpoint trigget in the center position when this is happening? It sounds like it's in the locked forward position. In the center position with all the other controls set at the preset mark, it should hit the silver coin at least 10". If not then there is something wrong for sure. Does it have the standard 950 coil on it?

In the center position it has the loud thresh hold. When I pull or push the toggle it gets louder and this is with the coil in the air at waste level. I just ordered a 5.3 bullseye and a 15 inch coil from Kellyco I will test it with a different coil when they show up. If it doesn't cure the problem looks like it will be heading off to the repair shop. The coil that is on it is a black Max 950

Sounds like it could have been the coil it wasn't used much in the first place. Sounds as if you are going down the right road. Test with another coil if no go then back to the repair shop. If there is a coil cover make sure it is clean and make sure all the contacts are really good and clean.

I played with it for a few hours today. With the discrimination off and the sensitivity all the way up i was able to find some targets. It didn't make any beeping sounds it was more like clicking and popping and I was just listening for the change in sound. I did manage to find a tax token at about an inch and a penny at about an inch. And of course some nails and aluminum foil. From the videos I have seen on you tube it doesn't seem like this machine should make the clicking noises. I thought it would be more of a beep. Even on my test coins it makes more of a clicking noise unless the coil is almost touching the target. Starting to think it it might not be the coil after all. There is no coil cover and I put a little dab of die electric grease on the contacts. Mr. Bill If you read this I would be more than happy to pay you to mod this machine and trouble shoot it for me. If anyone has any other ideas I'm all ears.
