Whites idx pro

Is the idx pro really 30% deeper then the idx ? The article says its deeper do to a tuned phase. Has anyone noticed a depth difference. And do you think the idx pro is pretty much as deep as newer machines.. My wife found a 1798 largecent at 8" deep with all dials set at preset with a good audio diggable signal !

I've had both the IDX and the IDX Pro. Maybe 10% deeper on a good day. A Mr. Bill modified IDX Pro with manual Ground Balance maybe 30% deeper in the ground. Quite a difference in depth when you can adjust the GB.

I would like to try the ground knob on my idx, here in new Hampshire my ground is pretty decent. I think it would really make this detector shine. Does the ground balance work in the disc circuit or the all metal.

It works in both all metal and Discriminate. You GB in all metal of course but it transfers over to the disc mode.

You can,of course, accomplish GBing to your site by tuning the trimmer under the flag,but....the knob is REALLY handy, the most important mod for sure. Guys who have not had good things to say about the IDX I believe never tweak the GB given the PITA nature of having to fiddle with the stock setup. That is SUPER unfortunate, they are GREAT machines, stock or modded.

Thanks for everyone chiming in. I also like the feel and how rugged these machines feel...truly built like tanks !

That 1798 large cent is a rare bird.I found one about 10 years ago in incredible condition and sold it for over $1200.It looked liked it was lost as soon as it was minted.I found it in a farm field along with a rare fugio cent that I sold for around $600.I found them with my 1021 CZ-3D about a week after I bought it.Machine bought and paid for in 2 digs plus about $800 extra to boot.I wish I didn't need the money back then cause I never would have sold either of them.If I find another I won't give it up no matter what.

Yup I have sold some coins and rare military buttons I now wish I didnt. However getting some cash like that is also a great feeling when you do something you love. I have scored one fugio however it's not copper its like pewter or something, its in bad condition and enges are crispy,I found it around an old cellar hole from the 1700's. I wonder if it's a conterfiet.

As far as I know they did strike some in pewter so its most likely real. The fugio was only minted one year(1783)so they are rare indeed.

The IDX's are pretty reliable machine in IDing and yes it can keep up with newer machines, older whites are better than newer machines in my opinion
