Whites Goldmaster 66TR - why 2 battery packs?

StvS

New member
I received a Vintage Goldmaster 66TR with 2 heads - why did it require two AA battery packs? One for 8 batteries and one for 6 batteries? The person that had it claims "it works fine" with just the 9V. Then why 12V needed?

Thanks.

I had one of those ..... and don't recall being able to run it off a single pack. I didn't even think it would turn on, unless both packs were there. But I may be wrong (that was ~35 yrs. ago! :)) You can turn it on, and try it both ways, in air tests I guess, and find out :)

[size=large]have you called whites and asked them? they might even have a owners manual they could copy to you.

The manual is no problem, it is right here: http://media.whiteselectronics.com/manuals/Goldmaster%20Manuals/GM%2066TR%20Instruction%20Manual.pdf

As far as the batteries go, two 9 volt batteries will let it work for testing, but it will not work very well and not for very long. It needs the higher voltage of the one pack for depth and the AA batteries has FAR more capacity to run it much longer. 1973 circuits draw a lot more power than today's IC's.
