White's Eclipse Shooter DD 4 x 6" Search Coil? :twodetecting:

Hello Everyone,

I am getting an MXT Pro soon and i was also thinking about getting a Whites Eclips 4x6 search coil. The MXT pro i am getting already comes with the 12" search coil but i wanted something that would work well if i hit a trahy area. I know the 4x6 is the best for the trashy areas. What i was planning on doing was using the 12" coil as my main search coil and if i just hit an area with alot of trash or targets that are close together i would just slap on the 4x6. I don't have enough money at the moment to get 3 coils, so i would just keep the 12" that comes with the MXT Pro, then use the 4x6 whenever i see fit. Because at this one location i hunt at, it has what seems to be really good targets but they are so close together...i cannot tell what or if i should dig....so what do you guys think? Do i have a good plan?

Thanks!

From what I've read most people ditch the stock coil and use something else. Why don't you see if the dealer will swap off the stock coil for something else? No need to spend money when it's not necessary. You just need to figure out what coil/coils you will use the most. I read where people say that they leave their 5.3 Eclipse coil on 95% of the time.

First, you are going to be getting one of the better detectors on the market today.

The 12" coil is a good coil, but I favor it when hunting more open areas (lower target sites). Usually I use the 950 for moderate-target sites, but 95% of the time I hunt with a smaller-than stock coil. Why? Because, quite honestly, many sites we hunt ARE target-rich, especially with rejected trash, like iron, and the smaller coil provides the best advantage for us.

The skinny elliptical Shooter coil can be better in trashy sites than any larger-size coil, be it the 950 or 12" coils. However, it is a matter of opinion as to which smaller coil is "best" for hunting trash areas, and in my own experience, the 6

I'd sell the 12" and buy a used 950 coil. Then for a smaller coil for use in trashy areas, I'd get the Eclipse 5.3 or the Eclipse 4X6 you were thinking about.

Thanks everyone for your awesome replies.

I have all the coils discussed and find I use the 12" very seldom, either the 5.3 or 6X10 much of the time and the 4X6 shooter when I encounter really heavy trash. For general detecting I prefer the 6X10 closely followed by the 5.3 as they both handle trashy areas pretty well, yet have decent coverage and depth.
My two bits.

The reason i want to keep the 12" because it's depth. And the reason i want the 4x6 is for the trash. So my question is does the 5.3 or the 6 x 10 have good depth?

I own both the Eclipse 6x10 and the Eclipse 5.3. Two very different coils- both excellent in my opinion. The 6x10 was my 'large' coil until I got the Detech 13". The 5.3 is great in trash. The 6x10 is a DD coil and the 5.3 is concentric. The 6x10 is deeper in most conditions. Both coils glide easily over uneven ground. Hope this helps. HH. Matt

In my judgement I'd say very usable, but not extreme for both.
