whites dual field

I've never found a gold chain with mine (DF Surf PI /12" coil) in the 4 years I've been using it, and since it's a noisy detector to begin with, it would be hard to tell if it's a signal or chatter.
The 3 fine chains make no discernible signal in between the chatter when air tested within an inch of the coil. The Figaro bracelet does give a signal close to the coil, but not at several inches.

If you want to find small chains, use a high frequency vlf, basically the same thing you'd use to find small nuggets, like a fisher goldbug or something. I personally do not feel that searching for small chains is worth it. Way too much small trash, and even if you do find a chain that small...well, it's a small chain, so not worth much. Go after bigger stuff imo.

A cheap machine that loves small gold is the tesoro compare.
It will find small gold and disc.is there to help out,you want dig iron like a true gold machine.
Lifetime warranty to boot.

I just got my Dual Field a few weeks ago. Only used it a couple of times so far. It definitely finds a lot. I plan to head for the coast tomorrow.

Well I ordered a dual field. I'm about 15 minutes from the beach so will be taking it there when it arrives. I have other machines for the dirt but I'm hoping the dual field in the water will find the smaller gold and chains. Thanks guys. Al

Love my dual field and yes I have hit a few chains with it but never deep ones. Few machines will hit a fine gold chain at depth. But...the dual field really punches deep on salt water and black sand. You'll love it.

I agree with Grilled Scallops, where there are chains there are pendents, rings, grills..all kinds of gold that is worth a lot more... Many times I will hit a pendent, only then will I do a sift all with everything near.. then move on if I don't have it in a few minutes.. NO need to waste time...

Detectors see individual links...... even a large ML struggles to see them. It comes down to how much time do you have to waste. I put in a good 6 hours each hunt or more...... ive made the consicounce decission to cover more beach and not chase anything that falls through my scoop. Some...... grid the heck out of an area.... some use a PI to get it all..... some use a dis VLF to pass targets. its seasonal here in Fl we chase recent drops a lot...... there are times to use a PI during the year. But spending your time digging during recent drop periods doesnt allow you to cover as much beach. The DF is a good machine..... but in fresh water something like a TS might do as well. GL
