Just got my dual field and been in the water hunting. Noticed that it is making lots of noise like everytime I swing it it goes beep. What setting should be used to tone it down or does the dual field stay noisey? Any suggestions is much appreciated! Aloha

Look at the responses to your previous post on 10/14..it's all there. I just got one last month..Big learning curve and it does go deep. Good Luck!!

Pretty chattery. But lay out some targets and you will see the difference when you go over something real. If your ground is really making a steady threshold impossible Clive's book (all of which have been good that I have seen http://clivesgoldpage.com/) recommends a small amount of pulse delay, just enough to smooth it out. I haven't had to do that, and it does start to take away a fraction of the depth/sens you bought the DF for. However, if you have to, its better than not being able to pick out a target.

Also, smooth swings and learn to pause when you change directions (or accept that fast dir changes cause it to beep) All this is the result of some very good automatic ground balance. No matter how hard it works though sometimes it just can't keep up and squawks at you.

Even the best PI machines may have problems with "hot rocks and some heavily mineralized soil/sand.

Ambient radio signals can cause problems where there are lots of sources such as passing boats, planes and electric powered trains.

When my DF starts to act up I know that it will usually pass when the electric train a half-mile or so away moves on down the tracks.

My hunting grounds are under a busy plane traffic are and a little over a mile from a ship channel to, so I have to put up with them all.

Fortunately they all are just far enough away that I can still hunt, but with less signal response than "normal".

I've heard of some places where a metal detector cannot be used at all, because of these electrical/radio emissions!

It's noisy, chattery, hisses and spits, and goes DEEP. Learn it, love it, and don't give up on it. My wife and I have Mindlabs as well as the Dual Fields. Over the long haul you WILL find more gold with the DF. You'll definitely dig more, get more exercise and help clean the beach. But more find more gold!!!

I have found that the best settings to use are..turn the gain to maximum ,leave the pulse timing alone at minimum ,turn the t-hold up as far as you can go until the chatter is slightly audible .Depending on the ground conditions you do have to adjust the t-hold up or down ,but keep it at the level where it is just audible .If you have complete quiet it means you will lose depth and you will lose targets .The the other thing is definitely use alkaline batteries because as the batteries die you will also lose considerable depth and it is noticeable when you put the new batteries in .
The other thing I have attached some ferrite beads along the coil cable ,now a lot of poeple will debate the issue as to them working or not but I got them for free out of an old plasma tv that wasnt working any more, and I dont know if it is doing anything but I am of the opinion that I can turn the gain up a tad more.
Once you get used to the chatter you will find that you will be digging deep targets that will amaze you.
