Whites Dual Field Pulse Delay

Hi all,
This is my first post so be gentle :) I have a DF and i have found my first 18 Carat ring here in the UK last week. I would like to know what happens if i left the pulse delay in the fully counter clockwise 'clicked in' position? I usually run these settings, any feedback on the settings and the pulse delay would be most welcome, thanks in advance ... Steve

Gain : 2 o clock
Pulse delay : just clicked out on the toggle
Threshold : 1 o clock

Fully counterclockwise is the proper running position, clicking out you start to raise the pulse delay and objects are lost/discriminated starting with foil and fine gold, beware
fully counterclockwise i think the pulse delay is 15

Your settings have worked well for me.

I understand that tweaking the "Gain" setting can give favorable results under some conditions.

I haven't done it yet so can't advise.

I seem to remember someone suggesting turning the gain all the way to the stop?

So for us non technical guy's the Dual Field's pulse delay 'clicked in' fully counter clockwise will do what to fine gold???
Sorry for being thick, but if you don't ask you don't get

Also, in Clive's book a stable threshold is mentioned, this is my first pulse unit and i always go out thinking "is this what i should be doing?"
So, my threshold 'warbles' a bit is this ok?
I just need the guru's to say, thats fine and i can stop worrying and start focusing on small targets
I have used countless VLF machines on land, the latest in my armoury is the XP Deus, but they don't compare to PI's
Cheers
Steve

clicked conterclockwise is supposed to be the best pulse rate for gold(that this machine is capable of) but also ground noise too, when you click clockwise you are changing the pulse delay higher which makes it less sensative to gold but also less sensative to the ground noise, the idea is to look for a happy medium

i find one thing is a stable threshold another thing is the noise, on some of my beaches i have to run the gain down as low as 9-10 o'clock and very little depth is lost, threshold very faint so any slight sound can be heard, it will run real smooth. try it on you next faint target and see how much you lose/gain compared to stabalising it
i have tried clicking out clockwise but it loses things pretty quick so be carefull, i think its all a matter of constant tweaking on your particular beach

Kered,
You're than man.
Thanks for clearing that up. I shall leave it clicked in from now on and just 'fiddle' with the gain

Regards
Steve

My spin on this question is this. In very light conditons the preset Gain is fine. When you want to punch up the
Gain or operate in fast water, or where there is black sand or high mineralization or salinicity, some Delay acts to smooth the operation out. This lets you hear the deep ones better. It's like ground blanancing-- working with a higher platform for the threshold to sit up on removes it from a lot of low level interference. Thius difference can be heard and proven in the depth of targets that are available, but it takes practice to tell when some Delay is needed.

flyboy5 where you from in the UK
How are you finding the dual field.
Been thinking of getting the same unit for the beaches down here in cornwall
Not heard any first hand info from any one running one in the uk yet
Good luck and happy hunting

I run the gain at 3pm and the pulse delay at 7am with the threshold around 1100am, seems to work for me in fresh water lakes, I have attached a pic of gold ring with a Mexican "Dos Pesos" 1940 gold coin found yesterday past 12" deep. I'm not sure if my Excal II with the 10" coil would have hit it or not,,

Good luck,,

I live in Mid Wales, the Dual Field will knock the socks off most machines. I thought the Excal would be the daddy but its only a VLF machine, not a pulse induction. I firmly think that detecting beaches requires a pulse induction as VLF machine has the ability to discrim out stuff you can't be arsed digging, so your mind gets lazy and you miss targets. I find the DF to be a fantastic machine, and it teaches you to 'focus' in on the targets more than a VLF would. I use an XP Deus for land searching and the DF for beaches, i did have the etrac but the DF kicks it's arse full stop

If you do get a DF and you can get over to the North Wales coast, i will be more than happy to show you the ropes

Thanks mate just what I wanted to here:)

Times is tuff down here in Cornwall at the moment so this could not of come at a better time
