WHITE'S DI / PROFESSIONAL 6000 Just bought

nmex

New member
Well,
Here is an oldie but a goodie I hope I just bought this detector last week looking fwd to getting it. Can anybody shed light on how this detector is for being about 20 years old? Where they decent detecors?
Thanks Matt

Matt, I used this same detector for a few years. It's still a great machine even up to todays standards performance wise. The only big difference between it and newer Pro SL and XL Pro feature wise is the Signal Balance (aka gain) control. Yours has an adjustable sensitivity control (AC transmit Sensitivity) with the gain (Recieve Sensitivity) hard wired and non adjustable. The Di Pro SL and XL pro are the opposite and have the AC Transmit Sensitivity hard wired and the Gain- Signal Balance adjustable. The signal balance adjustment when set properly will have a greater effect on depth and stability in heavy mineralized ground or when using different coil sizes than the standard AC sensitivity adjustment. That being said in most ground conditions performance will be close to the newer models.

[attachment 20117 WHITES-6000-.jpg]I've seen a few minor variations from nmex's machine that I'm guessing were all pretty close to 1985 vintage. Maybe they were mostly model year variations? My guess is that nmex's unit is one of the last ones marked "Coinmaster" and the one I have, marked "White's 6000 Di Pro Plus" must be right in there.
Mine was apparently supplied with the 9.5 Blue Max coil instead ot the 8 inch - probably accounting for the "plus"? If this pic comes through, you can see the blue lines through the "plus." I think I've seen a picture of one without the lines, and maybe other variations. All, I suppose with about a nickel's worth of difference in performance? Does anyone know about what year the SL model was introduced?

in mid-April, 1985 as they came out of production for shipping. That was the "Coinmaster 6000 Di Professional Series" labeled unit.

In 1986 the titles remained the same, and the "Coinmaster 5900 Di Professional Series" and others were added. They still used the 8" coils of the former design.

In 1988 White's upgraded and the Eagle went to the Eagle II that dropped the "Professional Series" term, and the 6000 Di on down lost the "Coinmaster" term. Also, they changed the "Professional Series" to "Pro Plus", but that was also done to the 5900, 4900 and 3900. However, only the Eagle II, 6000 Di Pro Plus and 5900 Di Pro Plus came with the 950 coil, or used the then-new Bue Max 950 coil.

In late 1989, the "Coinmaster" name was brought back and used for the Classic series that was just introduced. They were black in color, and White's also went to the black 'SL' configuration for the 6000 Di Pro and 5900 Di Pro. This time, the "Plus" was eliminated on these two models, but retained on 4900/D Pro Plus.

We lived with the 6000 Di Pro, Pro Plus, and Pro SL with a few circuitry improvements until White's engineering team developed a replacement with the 6000 Pro XL, and about 2001 they just renamed it the XL Pro.

PS: No guarantee those years are 100% accurate, but close enough to get the idea.

I started out with one just like that (used) about 10 years ago! That unit was the greatest, and it started a new hobby for me. I literally "wore it out" and replaced it with a newer 6000 DI/PRO. I gave the old one to my son-in-law and he still uses it occasionally. Have a great time with it. I was recently in NM (White Sands area) for my job, and I wish I could have brought the detector along. Good Hunting !-JH

Hello, I purchased my first 5900/DI Coinmaster Professional Series for 40 bucks. Just put new batteries in and off I went hunting.
Today, I found my first eagle button and crazy about this machine. I will upload pictures once i get them clean.
I need some good headphones any recommendations? I was looking to upgrade the stock coil.
I live in Va. some of these camps are loaded with trash maybe DD coil?
