White's DFX or Minelab Explorer SE

DetectorDummy

New member
Hi all i am thinking of buying a new detector either a White's DFX or a Minelab Explorer SE. any suggestions? I mainley do beach hunting in New York on long island.

Detector Dummy, I think you could post this on both the Dfx and Minelab forums. I own a DFX and love it! I heard most say the Explorer goes deeper and have seen depth tests that claim that also. But if you dig around in the forums you will find both have their upside/downside. I know only about the DFX. Also the White's customer service is great. I also chose a DFX because I have an authorized service center easily within driving distance! So I would weigh all your options, good luck.

The Explorers are nice machines but very heavy. If all you are going to do is hunt very small areas then they may be ok, but if you are going to hunt beaches, you will need to harness up to use one. I personally feel the weight is unsafe and unhealthy for your shoulder and arm.

The DFX is a nice machine and better balance. Really comes down to personal preference. I like them both but chose to keep the DFX instead of the Explorer because of the weight and balance. Performance was about the same for me.

Good luck.

To me it feels much lighter feeling from the little I did use it before freeze up. I think with the new coil the shaft connect more to the center making it balance better, so it does feel lighter in my opinion.
I think once more can get out with the new SE you will see some good input on this Explorer with one a lighter detector than the ones before.

My comment is based on the Explorer II. I'll try a SE later in the year and see if there really is a difference. But my arm still remembers the ExpII.

:detecting:Detector Dummy...I see you did take the time to post on the explorer site, but not the dfx site......not sure why you asked the question:confused: Believe me I have talked to a lot and I mean a lot of experienced explorer users off the record and in private messages who have had both and say the explorer does go deeper....but the DFX is just as good a machine...add that and tremendous customer service that White's has and it has to be a toss up! Those experienced explorer users out there reading this that have used both, and I notice a lot have both...hmmmm I wonder why:cheers: obviously they are both excellent detectors, silly bashing wastes time!
