White's Classic ID

Hi, I just bought a White's White's Classic ID, eBay Item number: 190224622306 if you want to check it out. I am thinking that the Classic ID is White's older technology but am hoping that it is a good detector. I know depth is determined by numerous factors and it isn't everything but I am hoping that the Classic ID will go as deep as my Tesoro Silver uMax & also as good as hitting on rings/jewelry as my Silver uMax is. Just wondering everyone's opinion of the Classic ID. Thanks! Steve.

Howdy Steve................

I'm just joking with ya! I have had an IDX PRO since November of last year, and just love it. It has a discriminator similar to Tesoro machines. Get the 5.3 bullseye, blackmax or 600 bluemax coil for it. All of these coils are 6 in. in diameter. With this coil on the machine it will run through the trash and iron nails just as good as the Tesoros, just don't put much faith in the "meter". The meter is pretty good though, when it sez Quarter, it's usually a quarter. Check out my posts about ( all metal and ground ballance ) in which Monte responds with a thourough explaination. Later Bud...............Hombre

Hombre said; Steve, I thought you did'nt trust faulty fuel guages. You are right about that Hombe. That's is one reason I wanted to try something different. Not to put Monte on the spot but I believe that I have read posts where he states the Classic ID/IDX/etc. were pretty accurate id'ing. We'll see. Nothing like a beep & dig machine and I still have a Tesoro detector. I will soon see how a White's works. Steve.

Then you have a beep and dig detector ! Good luck with that new "old " Classic Id. HH.............Hombre

Steve,

I just purchased a used White's Classic ID a few weeks ago. It is my first White's machine. As luck would have it, I found three Mercury dimes in the same hole at a school I have hunted for over 25 years. I have found silver almost every outing. The machine is so simple to use and great on batteries. It is like starting over in the areas I have already hunted. Previously I have used Garrett and Bounty Hunter detectors and this White's seems to out perform them. Sure hope you have as much success as I have had. Good luck hunting!!

Thanks for the reply foreverRich, it is good to know that you like the detector. I should have mine for this weekend to try, I will post here how it does. Thanks! Steve.

I forgot to ask you foreverRich, do you find the meter accurate id'ing coins & are you happy with the depth of the detector.

Steve, for the most part the meter is fairly accurate. Your ground conditions may or may not affect the accuracy. If you are mainly coin shooting in parks, etc, it should be good enough. If It is used in places with a lot of iron, like nails, then it will be best not to trust the meter as much.
I have the IDX-Pro, it does a good job in trashy areas and it get decent depth.

Hi Steve,

The Classics are very accurate for target ID detectors provided the GB , sensitivity and coil selection are appropriate for site conditions.Whats nice about the Classic is you can use it as Target ID or a Beep Dig. Whites did enhance the Sensitivity since the Classic ID and the IDX Pro is a bit deeper on Target ID and the beep dig area. The mods will take care of that disparity on the Classic ID:thumbup: and will also allow easy access to GB adjustments if necessary. Never used a Silver uMax and curious on your opinions of the standard Classic ID vs the Tesoro. Good luck with it Steve. HH Bill

Steve,

Up to about 6" the meter is right on. I found a 1953 Quarter at 6" and even though the signal was fairly week, the VID locked on at Quarter. The only time the meter reads quarter and it isn't, is when it is a piece of aluminum ( which isn't that often). I have found that deeper than 6" coins tend to be off ( dimes showing pennies and quarters showing dimes) although all coins that indicate good are almost always there. With the exception of rusty steel and can slaw. I wish they made a detector that could tell the difference between all good and bad targets, but until then I guess we just have to dig to find out.
