New member
hello all new to md have a whites classic id sl with a blue max 800precison scan coil is it good for beach hunting ?how good of detecter is it any help would be nice

I also own the classic ID sl. along with 2 IDX-pros and MXT.,and a CM4 DB

I used the classic for 3 years and it is a great machine for fields but not the best for the beach.

The 8 " coil is a little smaller than I use ,Mine is a blue max 950 & I have found hundreds of dollars in the 3 years I used it.

Good luck with it, it is a great machine...John.................

I second that. My boss (my wife) uses an IDX pro (almost the same as your classic id sl) and she usually beats me. She doesn't give up, though and she REALLY knows that machine, though. I think there may be some kind of ESP involved there - I couldn't identify anything with it - but she does extremely well. I did notice that the discrimination is excellent with it. I also know it drives everyone else nuts when it's used in a competition hunt - no one can get near it because of cross-talk.

Most any detector is good for the dry sand. You can usually crank the SENS to max and achieve the most depth possible. The Classic is a tad hefty for long periods out on the hot sand, but its not really too bad in that regard. But sooner or later you will be tempted by the water. The urge to go there will be strong.

If it is salt water, that is where the detector will give some worries. It just is not cut out for the wet salt and you DO NOT want to get it wet. Also the coil you have is full of air, like a bubble. Once in the water it will want to float and you will constantly struggle with it.

Dry sand - about as good as you might want.
Wet salt and wavelet shallows? I wouldnt.
