White's Classic ID SL:whites: First Impression

I saw a Classic ID SL with a 8 inch coil for sale here locally at a great price, so I thought I'd give it try. It hits really good on high conductors and fair on low conductors. I like the 3-way switch where you can lock it into the forward position and search in all metal. It's factory preset all metal hum level is set perfect and the factory preset ground balance is set perfect for my ground as well. There's just a little positive ground balance when I pump the coil, so there's no need to adjust anything. The bar ID is accurate and fairly stable. I had one small beaver tail pull tab that bounced back and forth from the nickel bar to the pull tab bar, even so I could clearly tell it wasn't a nickel. Being able to ID while searching in all metal is a big plus. I did note one thing that was unusual, the bar ID would ID just a little deeper than the audio ID. In other words the bar ID graph was locked on steady while the audio was just barely picking up the target. The 8 inch coil isn't a bad compromise between the 6 /1/2 and 9 1/2 inch coils. It's nearly as deep the 9 1/2 inch coil and should separate nearly as well as the 6 1/2 inch coil does. The best I can remember, the 8 inch coil balances better than the 9 1/2 inch coil that I had on the IDX. Oh yeah, it handles EMI really good and I like the way the you can move the coil really slow to separate targets.

Not a bad detector.

Tabman.....

Nice looking Classic ID, the 8" coil is a good overall coil, the 5.3 BullsEye coil is a must when the trash gets thick. My IDX Pro is a keeper, found a couple of Mercury dimes with mine last week using the 8" coil. One of the Mercs was around 8" deep !

There's just something warm and cuddly about Whites and Tesoro detectors.

Classic ID is a great lil machine. I have one as well with the 4 1/2" snooper coil mounted to it. There isn't another machine that will work as great as this one in really trashy areas with that little coil mounted on it. Very slow small sweeps. I have found some nice coins and tokens with a Classic ID in very iron/trashy infested areas with that little coil . Also the Bullseye 5.3 works very well in trashy areas.

And if you're not hung up about the meter, the Classic III SL is even simpler and lighter.

Lytle78 you got that right. A Classic III SL with a 5.3 Bullseye coil would have been my preference. Some people like to watch screens and some don't.

I can do both. It just depends on my mood. :)
