Whites Classic ID info wanted

Can anyone tell me about the Classic ID detector. I'm looking at buying a used Classic ID and wanted to know what to expect from it performance wise. My ground is good where i hunt and i have had good luck with other beep and dig units in the past. This will be my first Whites detector and i don't know anything about how well they work. I currently own 2 Fisher cz detectors and a Tesoro Silver

are both slow-motion/quick-response models with a factory preset Ground Balance.

Over the Silver

thanks for the info monte, i appreciate it . so it sounds as though the classic id is a decent detector for the money.

If I had my choice between a Silver and the Classic ID, I'd go with the Classic.

- There are more coils for it that matter.
- The and well... the Silver doesnt have one
- Performance is about the same.
- The Silver is lighter and less "spindly" than the Classic.
- The Whites unit can be sent to Bill Crabtree for enhancements.

dahut, thanks for the info on the whites detector. i'm curious about the whites after all these years swinging mainly fisher detectors and a few tesoros. i wanted to try one basically to see just how well they operated and since it won't be my main machine i'm not too worried about it if the performance is on par or better than my silver umax. if i happen to not like it a buddy might want it for a backup machine..............roger

If you can get your hands on one of these Whites Classic series detectors, you'll probably like it. Especially if you have never tried a Whites unit. I goofed up earlier, so here are some clarifications:

- There are more coils for it that matter... when I say that I mean the coils it can use are widely available, not costly and cover a wide usage range. With the SIlver you dont have as many choices.

- The TID Display is accurate and provides enough information, and well... the Silver doesn't have a display at all.

- Performance is about the same. There may be a slight edge with the Silver on target recovery in the DISC mode, but it is of little matter. On the down side, the Tesoro's auto tune in All Metal offsets that - its the one big booger that Tesoro has in recent years. Well that and the elimination of a pinpoint control... the Classic uses a trigger pinpoint.

- The Silver is lighter and less "spindly" than the Classic. By itself, it doesn't really matter with the Whites although the swing momentum takes some getting used to. Compared to the Silver, it is no contest... The Umax Tesoros handle like a dream.

- The Whites unit can be sent to Bill Crabtree for enhancements. Bill adds a threshold control, manual ground balance and a reputed 20% boost to the SENS at the upper end. The Silver must be modded by the owner, who supposedly will know what he is doing. No one makes a professional business of enhancing its performance that I'm aware of. You void your warranty in doing so, too, unlike the "Mr. Bill mods."
