White's Classic ID 1st. Impression

I received my Classic ID this morning and tried it out. I have been using Tesoro detectors for along time, the Classic ID is heavier but it isn't too bad, very well balanced. It is a quality made detector. I found the id readout to be pretty darn accurate, discrimination was good, sensitivity was also good, pinpoint right on the money. I don't believe that it gets the depth that my Tesoro Silver uMax got. If I decide to keep it for good I am going to have Mr. Bill's mods. done to it. I will wait until winter to send it to him to have the mods. done. Thanks! Steve.

Howdy Steve

I figuered you would like it. It has the same circuitry as my IDX pro, although mine was tweeked by Mr. Bill at the time I bought it. So I don't really know how much the modification helped. Mine is plenty deep enough, but more important is it's discriminaton abilities. It has a great disc. You can move the coil at a slow speed through the trash and pick out the goodies with ease. I run my disc knob at about 9 o'clock, just enough disc to knock out a rusty 3 in. square nail, and then go for it. You can also run the sensitivity at full throttle with out chattering, if it does chatter back off a little. Hope this helps, good hunting to you!...................Hombre

HI;
I'M NEW TO THIS HOBBY AND I BOUGHT A CLASSIC 5ID I'VE NOT HAD MUCH CHANCE TO WORK WITH IT BUT WHAT I HAVE I LIKE IT JUST FINE . WHO IS MR BILL AND HOW DO I CONTACT HIM FOR IMPROVEMENTS OM MY MACHINE. THANKS

He is at Surfscanner .com. He does mod the Classic5ID. He will add manual G/B and threshold adjusting knobs (pots). He also will add a boost circuit. On his site he claims it will add 2" to 2.5". He did my IDX and it works fine. I bought the IDX as a backup and didn't use it before I had it modded so I can't say how much it improved the depth. It works very well. Rob
