Whites Better Hurry!

 I just read on another forum that Garrett is coming out with a new VLF detector in the fall so Whites needs to hurry up if they are going to beat them to the punch :starwars:,... so to speak: :): I sure hope Whites is listening. They need to stay Number 1 in the industry :whites: What would all of you like to see Whites come up with? I would like to see a new full feature detector that has a smaller coil option. :jump:

something with the power of an M6 or MXT that would run on 9V batteries.

The release of their new Pulse Scan TDI unit, is a first in the production metal detecting world. It's the first PI metal detector with discrimination.

This release put them #1 no mater how you look at it. All the other manufactures have been trying for years to design a PI unit that could discriminate, Whites succeeded in doing so.

I think in the near future we will see some advancements in their product line that will make all happy. :)

i thought this might happen!..seems odd that whitey is losing market share!..i am thinking they are "working" on a new circuit design of their own,and it's still in "skunk works!"...we'll know soon enough!..to be perfectly honest,i believe whitey's got something ,but it ain't ready yet!

like the man said!..they better hurry up!..talkin' something to compete with the f-75..(v.l.f!)..perhaps they will try to adapt (p.i) technology to land hunting?...

[size=large]Garrett come out with something new. I mean, the Ace 250 is wonderful, for what it is, can do, and is priced at, but they need to do something with the rest of their line-up..

The Scorpion Gold Stinger has a lot of potential, but they need a better package, AA battery power, and round concentric coils.

As for the rest, they need to feature either manual Ground Balance or TRUE auto-tracking in BOTH the Discriminate and All Metal modes.

A for White's, they have a couple of new units in the PI department, and the rest of us are most likely going to enjoy what they bring us next. I seriously doubt that it will be just one or two models. We're going to see some changes, and that ought to be interesting.

Sadly, one of the 'new' models to come won't be an XL Pro, and that's really disheartening for me, and many others.

I don't see where Garrett is coming out with another VLF detector. There are hints to a pinpointer though. As far as Whites. I just wish they could shave a pound off of their professional detectors. Maybe a notch disc M6 that is 3 pounds or less.

An affordable, threshold-tone hunting machine w/VDI ($499.99 or so) and I don't mean anything in the Prizm line. I LOVE White's stuff but the other mfg's have more bang for buck options.

I would love to see a lighter detector model, but not like the prism series, they are just not the detectors that the mxt, dfx, m6 , xlt etc.are. I love my M6 I could not be happier, but I believe there is a way to make a detector with its ease of use alot lighter, as said before by khouse even a pound off for me would be a great relief, They are a great company but need a lighter high-end detector. I love the weight (or lack of it) on tesoros but I love Whites capabilities, tone and visual i.d., powerful, ease of use etc.

There must be a reason why White's detectors are still a bit heavy. It only makes sense from a manufacturing standpoint and as a cost cutting (profit) measure, that they would try and make the lightest machine they could. You may get what you wished for, but at a reduced reliability. The all metal housing may just be replaced by plastic. As I get older, it's definitely harder on the shoulder to swing that 9.5" coil for 9 hours. But I don't want to loose the reliability. Maybe someone from White's can chime in on this?? HH

I say keep the metal case. It's lightweight by itself anyway. But lets make it smaller. This is what they need to do. Build a detector around 4 AA batteries not 8. 4 AA batteries weigh 3.5 oz's. This also would then reduce the box and battery case by half. Some of the electronic components are huge compared to a lot of other detectors. Let's get some smaller components on the circuit board. This would reduce the load so our 4 AA cells last 30 hours. How about that wasted space around the meter? It looks like there is a lot to shave there too. Throw on some carbon fiber shafts. I bet they could do remove a pound easily. Yes it would be a complete re tooling but then they could run with that design for another 20 years. Look what your cell phone has to offer compared to just 5 years ago.

I've owned a few Whites machines over the years and a few other top end machines by other manufacturers. One thing about those Whites machines...you may pay $600-$1000 for them, but when you do, they look like a professional $1000 machine for sure. Their quality control is very good in that area. I've just not had one as of yet that I really liked the performance of.

As for the new Garrett. I've been hearing that they are coming out with a "new machine in the fall" for like the past 8 years now and I've yet to see it. I've heard all this time that it is suppose to set the bar as the new great thing for relic hunting and such. Like I say...been hearing that for about 8 yrs now and not seen it yet.

I heard a while back when some of the guys were testing the Whites TDI, to look for two more new exciting detectors to join the ranks in and around July. That was a couple months ago and I've been waiting to see those new machines. Were they speaking of the new beach machines or is there something else suppose to be coming? I admit, the TDI in itself has my interest peaked but I can't afford a $1,500 machine anymore just to play around with. But those new machines always do catch my attention.

An MXT, full featured with 6-7 tones in coin mode.

The rest as it is but only in prizm housing.[/quote

Yes that would be great a MXT with tones...
