Whites Beach Hunter ID or Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II ... How do I choose?

G

New member
I was wondering if any of you pros have any advice for me as to which one is better for beach/surf hunting? These two are in my price range.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
G.

They can all be tough. I have not used the BHID so I can't comment. I did try the Sea Hunter Mark II. I found it worked great anywhere on the beach, but worked best in the water or wet sand. This is a PI unit and they work much better in or under water. No matter how I configured this detector I found it awkward and clumsy to work with. Whether it was stem mounted or hip mounted I just couldn't get used to it. Maybe it was just me. I brought it back and decided on another brand completely.

I have and love the BHID! In the price range listed, if you're going to have one water machine on the beach and surf go with the Beach Hunter. The discrimination works well and you have multi tones with it. I would read all the posts (do a search on Beach Hunter ID and BHID before making any decisions). PIs are great in areas with less trash, heavy surf, and deeper water but It wouldn't be my pick if it's the only water machine or for someone without water hunting experience. Good luck with whatever you purchase!!!

Have a Sea Hunter and with it hip mounted can use all day. Is powerful. Hard to beat Garrett quality in their detectors. Had it up agaist excaliber, was equal depth with its 8 in coil. The hip mount option is definatly something to consider, cant do that with an excaliber. Whites is good but is not a PI and wont go as deep as the Garrett and is hard to be hip mounted. And the coil on the Whites is bouyant, which means you will have to force it to stay underwater. The Garrett coil will stay underwater. Also the Whites goes to 25 ft. underwater depth, the Garrett is 200 ft. underwater.
More Depth + lighter with hip mount + More frequencies + lower price = hard to beat the Sea Hunter Mark 2. HH Good luck with your decision.

Unfortunately, in the water, unless you dig everything, you may miss a good target. I use both the Excal and Infinium. Case in point, I went over an area with the Infinium immediately after using the Excal and found more clad, one piece mixed in with iron that the Excal probably nulled over. Garrett and Minelab support is outstanding.
