I got a White's Beach Hunter via UPS last night. I took it out today to a city park where there is a swimming area and dock on the Columbia River. I found about $4.00 in clad, a .925 silver band and a silver guitar shaped earring. No gold yet though.
While I was using the BH, the threshold volume would gradually go way up loud enough to hurt my ears, and down by itself to where I could not hear the threshold. This happened in both discrimation and all metal mode throughout the day. I checked my settings, they were the same (knobs not moved). I had to reset the threshold volume about every 10 minutes or so. I checked the ground balance several times and it seemed ok.
Has anyone experienced this problem with the threshold volume? Any advice?
I have to set the sensitivity to almost the very lowest setting, otherwise the detector gives false signals. I live in Washington State, but only fresh water hunt, as it is 6 plus hours to the coast. I am told we have moderately high mineralization.
