WHITES ALL AROUND NICE WATER DETECTOR

C.J.M.

Well-known member
Been thinking about a mid range good used whites water detector. Not looking for expensive model, just a water detector that has a good back ground for the beach(salt water).Would appreciate any back feed you have:thumbup:Whats a good model to look for?----------james

Well they got a vlf detector and a pi detector and the new MX Sport will be water proof at 799$ or some older surfmasters from whites. shortribs

Unfortunately,"not expensive" won't get you a top performing saltwater detector. However, the whites M6 is a really good performing detector on the salty sand and it's not too expensive.
Go up a little in price and you can get the BH id as mentioned above and this machine is in a different league.......one of the best beach detectors available.I've got to know my BH very well and would put it up against any beach machine from any other manufacturer but you have to learn it a little before you get the most from it.

The Beach Hunter ID is a very nice dual frequency that worked very well for me in salt water.

WOW----Sounds like the beach hunter is a winner,is that a P.I.machine ? I saw where the garrett infimium LS is being cut off production line, suppose to been one of the great ones:shrug:Thank you for the information guys will see if I can find a used one.---james.

James, The Beach Hunter is a VLF detector that hunts in 2 frequency 5 and 15 I think. That is what makes it so good. It is like the Minelabs. only has like VDI lights to tell you if iron or not.

It is 3 and 15khz.
The great thing about the bh is it's all metal mode.....i search in this mode all the time. The best thing about the all metal mode on this machine is that it still gives visual id in the form of of it's coloured led's.The discrim in this mode is not as accurate as when the machine is in full discrim mode but it still gives you a good idea and prevents you digging up all the iron scraps.
The trade off is worth it........in all metal you get superb depth and great sensitivity to tiny objects, especially if you run it slightly hot.It will pick up the occasional iron in this mode but you won't miss any valuable objects down to good depths.
The thing to remember in all metal is that a red light still always means iron so anything that gives a red light should be left.
Sometimes it will give a mixed signal with a red and yellow or red and blue. These can indicate some of the newer "copper" coins that have an iron core.........the machine will pick up the copper coating and the iron core, especially if the coin has started to corrode.
It is a machine that needs some time to be learned to get the best from it,epecially when used in the all metal mode but it is one of the best out there for salt water beaches.

Neil, you are right. I didn't look I just guessed, but I was close. I to hunt in all metal, that is the only way to hunt a beach, you never know what will pop up. I have tested my BH a lot of times on the Red light and it is always iron. Like you said if mixed lights then there is something else down there. I use a Buddy swing to help with the heaviness of the coil if I an going to hunt all day. Have you used the BH on land? It works well there also, not just beach. I have better detectors for that, but when at the beach and find a play lot back from the beach on land, it dose a good job there to.

Hi Flintstone,
Always thought the bh may do well inland but have never used it on the fields yet. It's good to know that you have done ok with it on land as well......i thought it might be good on quiet pasture where there are deeper targets that some detectors may miss.
Great to see someone else using the bh and doing well with it........certainly makes a change from listening to the ramblings of minelab addicts lol.

I too have the beach hunter id and enjoy the machine. As said in previous messages the red lights are accurate. I was wondering if anyone had any luck with super tuning the detector. I have tried but don't seem to get it to repeat what is suggested will happen in the instructions. Thanks

I've tried that too and not had any luck.I generally put mine in discrim, turn the threshold up so I can barely hear it at all (only the feintest trace of a threshold) and then I set the ground balance slightly positive. Then I turn the sensitivity up to just over three quarters and switch into all metal.......this works great on my sand and gives awesome depths even on tiny objects.
