The White's 6000 PRO XL is still one of my favorite detectors at times. You can cover a lot of ground with this "old" detector and find some good stuff. But one of the best secrets I know is how you can find such deep bullets and buttons that some of the new machines seem to miss. Most ferrous targets will show to the right of zero, while trash targets will deflect the needle left of zero. If you have your threshold set to where you can just barely hear it, and you get a sound, but the needle stays on zero, DIG. Most of the time on a Civil War site, this will be a good target (bullet/button) that is at the fringe of the detection depth of your detector. Be sure to ground balance often.
