White's 5900di Pro

I recently received a 5900di Pro and by all appearances if it got used more than 10 times, I would be surprised. I followed the manual and believe it is ground balanced properly. As I sweep an area, the md sounds off like it is over some iron. The sound is not constant. A coin is on the ground and is swept, same sound as over iron. Not a solid signal. VDI indicates the proper coin is being seen. Sounds like age has settled into the pots and a solid contact seems to be the problem. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Mike

Not exactly sure the point you are trying to make but if you are in all metal mode then yes all targets will sound very simular as this is a single tone machine.. being new to the machine i would recommend you go to a clean area with ome loose change and dosome air tests... turn all dials to the "P" settings as recommended by the directions on the underside of the box.. swing your coil over different coins at different hieghts and sweeps and see how well the meter and audio respond and go from there... if and when you ground balance make sure you are in a clean area and adjust to slightly positive.... they are a great machine when you get to know them... they also are great for hunting for clad in parks as the pinpoint is rather acurate... good luck...

Call Whites and ask to talk to Todd as he is the man when it comes to Whites 4 filter analogs!

Thanks to Bootyhound pa and Harold,ILL for their response.Seems the problem has been caused by some pretty poor soil at my daughters home. I took the unit to one of the local parks here in Las Vegas and the unit was quiet and responded nicely to targets and discriminated metals. Seems when the thousands of homes recently built in Las Vegas were graded, they threw the kitchen sinks, etc.on the lots to level them out.
