Whites 5900 DI Pro Meter ID has poor depth.

I have a whites 5900 DI PRO , what I would like to know is if any one knows if there is a modification or adjustment to increase the sensitivity of the target ID meter. My tests have shown the meter will only Give a lock on to a buried coin to about 4 inches or so, a , any coins deeper than 4 inches
and it's any ones guess as to weather it's a coin beyond 4 inches or iron . The depth is GMAXX is very good but the meter just has no depth much at all. When in GEB DISC the depth seems to be rubbish at only 4 inches on a big coin buried underground. I thought these machines were supposed to be good , the depth of the meter is not good at all , is there a preset I can adjust inside the machine to turn the meter sensitivity up..

I would like to be of some help but since I do not know what 5900 you have (blue box/black box) whether it has Signal Balance on front of machine or on top.

Mine is the last updated one made in 1994 and is the CB version (composite board) with the latest revisions. It is easy to get depth with the adjustment of the Signal Balance (sensitivity/gain) and then adjusting the Ground Balance to a neutral or slightly positive ground response. If you have too much Signal Balance dialed in, you will experience "fold over" while checking GB in G.E.B. Norm or pinpoint mode. The fold over ground response is where the threshold gets real positive then nulls out when coil is near the ground. I notice that your 5900 has GMAX mode, is this the all-metal pinpoint mode? Anyways, sorry I could not help much, good luck with it. Also your 5900 could be sick, a check up at White's Sweet Home, OR might be in order.

I am thinking you have the original 5900 Di Pro blue box made around 1985 or so? If so,it is basically a 6000 Di Pro Series III. No Sensitivity, but a VDI/Meter sensitivity. I am not sure as to the internal adjustment pot. A person I know sent his 5900 Di Pro to Whites and they tweaked the depth for him. It got a few more inches in discrimination depth.
